OT-Minor League Ball Education Survey
I started a similar poll on Lone Star Ball earlier today after a debate about if that site is infiltrated with lawyers during one of the many bankruptcy threads and I figured it might be interesting to get a larger cross section of the SBN users. I have a belief that because of the nature of the Internet and the general time frame that most people post that there will be a very larger difference between MLB users and the rest of the normal population
Please pick the highest educational level you have completed and feel free in the comments to discuss the type of degree you maybe currently pursing and if you are so inclined your educational background. I am curious on how this compares to LSB and the population as a whole.

depends on where you go
and how the program is structured. Mine is very business heavy with more work in understanding application of rather than the straight mathematics side. It depends if you are an operations, QC, Business Analytics or modeling guy. Each aver there own specific areas of focus and depending on your program it depends on what you should shoot for.
If you want you can email me a

going to major in Econ / PoliSci and probably (you never know for sure) get a masters or J.D.
As a rule
MAs in those fields aren’t incredibly valuable; there are MAs in subjects like IR or public administration that are of varying levels of use, but many top schools don’t even offer terminal MAs in polysci or econ. You just have to be deranged and go straight for the PhD (like I am in political science)

+1
I have my Master of Science in Economics. OP is right in that many MA dont offer terminal Master of Art Degrees. Personally I love economics, and if you get past the macro part (not the biggest fan) the statistics, econometrics, time series, and microeconomic applications are pretty cool.

I'm going to need it
Coming from History, I know nothing about any of the social sciences – or even what they are. How I fell into this was basically a freak accident

for what its worth
I in no way correlate amount/type of education one attains to the value a poster may add and their ability to add useful insight for the MiLB Community within the minor league universe. In fact, Sethy, I believe Journalism would be a major plus in this universe. So if anything u got a leg up brother! For example, an amazing PhD statistician is pretty much useless if he cannot communicate in real and understandable terms what conclusions and applications he can draw from his work to others with different educational backgrounds.

interesting that you mention this
This is basically what I’m working towards, except with technology rather than numbers.

BA in communications, was going for a double major in political science as well. Hey, at least I’m in the media… barely.

Basically none of my degrees did me any good job wise, except teaching me how to write, read quickly, and absorb information at a rapid pace.

B.A in Sociology
as of earlier this month. It’s probably not an impressive degree.
sociology
If nothing else, the people in your general field write some of the best books for on-the-bus reading. :)
to each their own
I know a number of people who really enjoy the work of Malcolm Gladwell. One of the more enjoyable recent reads for me was The Paradox of Choice, by sociologist Barry Schwartz. The science of real life. Good stuff.
Isn't Malcolm Gladwell more of a journalist than sociologist?

depends on your perspective
I’d personally say that he’s both. I’m not picky about letting somebody wear multiple hats. He doesn’t have to be an academic to qualify.
