Dynasty Trade - Martin Perez for Matzek ++ w/Poll
Martin Perez for Tyler Matzek and Miguel Montero
Mixed 16 team 5x5 Dynasty league, no salaries. I have a win now team but a strong farm system as well. Weakness at catcher but enough bats elsewhere so its not a pressing need.
I've been offered Miguel Montero and Tyler Matzek for Martin Perez. Montero's bat has looked real good, although he may be somewhat damaged goods for the balance of 2010 as knee injuries and catchers don't always bode well for rapid recoveries. Montero would replace John Buck in my starting lineup.
Perez for Matzek is a downgrade, although they have similar ceilings. Perez has struggled so far at AA but he is very young and historically takes time to adjust to a new level and does better in the 2nd half. Matzek has pitched 5 innings of pro ball in Low A.
Which side of the deal do you like and why?
Thanks

Definitely Matzek/Montero
Perez is the better prospect, but there’s not a drastic distance between the two (both top 25 for me).
I don't mean to be a dick
and I don’t really have any problems with you wilbur, but all your posts seem to be fantasy related. I try to just ignore them and not let them both me, but when it’s such a busy fanposting season with the draft coming up, it knocks some peoples MODs off that I like to read and look at the comments.
faketeams.com is better place for this, and it might be better to start making more of your fantasy decisions on your own, I mean, that is the purpose of owning the fantasy team right? To be able to make decisions to make your team better? And I mean this is in the least harsh way because you do make decent comments on other member’s and John’s posts, but it might be better to use either faketeams, or to ask your questions in a comment in one of the daily game threads.
I hope this doesn’t offend anybody, but I for one think that the fantasy questions should be directed to faketeams, one of the reasons that fewer people comment at that site is because everybody asks their ??s over here.

I was thinking the same thing
I dont come on to this site much, maybe once or twice a week or so, so I dont know a ton about it. But judging by the title of the website I thought this was supposed to be a minor league baseball website not a fantasy one.
Fantasy Trades
I only post fantasy trades regarding prospects or extremely young MLB players since that is the “sweet spot” of this site.
Suffice to say, that I believe that traffic at this site (and it is traffic that pays the bills) is at least 50% “fantasy-related” and that sites like this probably wouldn’t exist (or be anywhere near as vibrant) absent interest from people that manage fantasy teams that have prospects. The other sites you mention do not have the same level of knowledgeable posters at all so I don’t waste time going there.
I do post occassionally on this site and do read the threads on this site on a daily basis, which is the much more important data point in the long run.
As long as you like the role of traffic cop why don’t go parse through all of the Minor League Daily update posts that go on ad nauseum “fantasizing” about Nick Franklin’s penis size or how a Low A ball pitcher’s stat line made someone soil their underwear.

well I'm glad you got that out of your system
but would it really kill you to ask your questions in the daily threads? I think you’d get the same amount of answers and it wouldn’t take up a valuable spot on the “Recent Fanposts” section of the blog where people’s valuable MODs are currently located.
I’m not trying to be site police, and I don’t care how people show their views for the prospects, but it would just be nice to have the fantasy questions located at either an already created thread, or at the site that is dedicated for fantasy purposes.
I also wasn’t meaning to get on your specific case wilbur, since I realize that probably 1/10th of all fanposts are fantasy-related on this site, but especially when this site is so high-traffic approaching the draft, it is a little frustrating to see a fantasy question plopped in the mix of the useful posts.

actually, I see both points of view
As far as interest in the site, you’re wrong. Plenty of traffic comes through here with minimal/no interest in fantasy baseball teams. Just because that’s your POV does not mean that’s the way things are. A significant percentage, of course, but “at least 50%” is really high and the gross exaggeration does nothing for the point you’re trying to make.
That being said, there’s really nothing wrong with asking fantasy questions. I do think people tend to get a little resentful when it seems like you basically don’t care about the community other than what it does for you, but obviously there are always people willing to help members of the community.
I tend to think that these posts would either be best as sub-threads in the daily posts (which ARE heavily-trafficked and will be seen) or as sub-threads in a fantasy post that’s generated weekly and recommended to stick on the front page. Sorry that you’re not up for posting in the daily threads due to the poor taste of others . . .they are not representative of the site.
In other words, have compassion for where the other guy is coming from, and you might be surprised at the reception you get.
I do post
In other threads.
Actually it would be nice if this site set up sub-forums like on many other sites (baseball HQ, rotojunkie bullpen, Adam foster’s project prospect.

I agree
it would be up to John but I think that it could work as a decent idea, and we’ll never know until we try right?
the only concern I would have is that it might be a rain on the faketeams.com parade, and I don’t know if that’s cool from one sbnation site to another.

fair question
I don’t believe that is currently possible with the SB Nation architecture . . .and I can’t see it coming in the future, as forums would drive away activity at the primary level.
gore51 is right, though . . .creating an area of the site beyond a post that caters specifically to fantasy would be kind of rude to the faketeams guys.
perez
he’s a (young) 19 year old in AA. That’s easy to forget.
Montero and Matszek
Montero is an excellent young catcher. He’s of comparable value to these prospects imo. Both Perez and Matszek are high-upside lottery tickets.
