Kevin Gausman...

I guess Gausman has fallen completely off the list. I’ve seen him drop quite a bit on other lists as well. What happened?

by DenverBears on May 24, 2010 9:54 AM EDT reply actions

Yeah Wow

That surprised the hell out of me.

What kind of numbers do you see Vettleson putting up?

The guy loves about 25 minutes away from me and i still havent had the chance to see him

Bentz seems particularly low

Any reason why John?

You’re name has 2k9 in it — what are you some 8 year-old who makes Pillsbury Doughboy cookies and jerks off to that bullshit video game with Tim Lincecum on the cover--

brentz

just guys that I like better. I still have him as a first rounder.

brentz

Brentz’s strike zone judgment is spotty and that worries me enough to drop him a bit.

by John Sickels on May 24, 2010 2:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Brentz I have higher

Covey I have a little lower

Pomeranz is an enigma because you just do not know which Pomeranz you are going to get and in the end I think he ends up in the bullpen

About Covey vs. Whitson

I’ve heard multiple people say that they prefer Whitson, so I’d love to hear why John (or others) would prefer Covey

covey

Covey, Whitson, and Allie are all very close in my opinion.

by John Sickels on May 24, 2010 2:52 PM EDT up reply actions

more

Allie has the best stuff, Whitson the best command, Covey in the middle. All are excellent as high school pitchers go.

Makes sense to me, obviously you're splitting hairs with some of the prospects at this point

How would those three guys compare to say, Zack Wheeler, Matt Hobgood and Chad James, as they were viewed upon being drafted?

Command

I think Covey has better command that Whitson, Whitson has more projection and comparable present stuff (similar velo, excellent slider to Covey’s dual-curve arsenal).

Cole seems to be very close to those three as well…it’d be interesting to see in a pole which of the four prep arms (after Taillon) readers prefer.

Renaudo

What are your thoughts/reasons for Renaudo at 26? I’d have him around 18-20, even after the injury. I really think he can rebound from this injury.

by Matt DeFranco on May 24, 2010 3:01 PM EDT reply actions

I just wonder how the Kyle Gibson thing could affect Ranaudo this year

Gibson fell like 15 spots last year because of the forearm issues, but now he’s one of the best pitching prospects in the minor leagues after he’s re-established his health.

A team that has convictions about Ranaudo’s health similar to those that the Twins had about Gibson could end up getting a steal if he can get everything back together. Gibson is one of my favorites now, an absolutely great pick by Minnesota.

it might

But Ranaudo hasn’t really lived up to his billing in almost a full year now. That makes him a bigger risk than Gibson, who was pitching well up until that freak injury.

I’m guessing it’ll come down to money, but I have to believe that somebody is still pretty big on him and will hope to get him at a discount.

by mrkupe on May 24, 2010 3:36 PM EDT up reply actions

18-24

I believe he’ll be taken anywhere from 18-20 in the first round, but if somone could sneak in and grab him after that would have an absolute steal, in my opinion.

John, or anyone else with knowledge of the draft and prospects

I know he is a small school guy so he is flying under the radar probably and not many people have heard of him but is there any talk about High Point’s RF Nate Roberts. He is hitting .423 with a OBP/SLG of .457/.612 18 HR 66 RBI 50 BB 31 K and is also 35-38 SB. As of a couple days ago he was leading D1 in runs scored and OBP, haven’t seen updated stats lately though. It is usually hard for a guy from a school that isn’t that good (.500 team in the Big South) to get recognition but I thought maybe his numbers would garner some attention.

Levon Washington

guess he should have taken his 1+ million last year and ran…(though I bet he still might go near the end of the first 50 picks this time around)

by PrincetonCubs on May 25, 2010 3:18 PM EDT reply actions

it is not sounding good for Washington

Andy Seiler suggested the other day that Washington’s stock is dropping like a rock and that he might not go inside of the first five rounds.

Needless to say, given his struggles this year and his age, it’s probably best for everybody involved to wait til next year.

by mrkupe on May 25, 2010 3:43 PM EDT up reply actions

wow

I knew he’d dropped, but I didn’t think it was that far. Waiting is probably his best bet then, I guess
