Time for Another Brett Gardner Premature Victory Lap

I need one, since my Chase D'Arnaud, Thomas Neal and Tyler Flowers pumping is all blowing up on me. Anyway, just kidding around. What happened to the big Vince Mazzaro fan from last year? I lucked out somewhat on this so far, since the process was bad. Somehow Gardner has cut back on his minor league K rates in the majors. And of course this is still small sample sizes. So he ain't Brett Butler yet, but this is a vintage Butler-esque season so far from this Brett. A little surprised the Yanks gave him the shot, but thus far he has made the most of it. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2009/6/27/927432/brett-gardener

Either that or

He’s been lucky with his high BABIP and unsustainable contact%.

I wouldn't be too sure

Cervelli might be in his way right now, but I still think he has a shot.

Sure, he'll come down

His babip is .361. His minor league babip for the last few seasons back to 2006 is .357. He hits a lot of grounders and has some speed. His contact rate is 94% this year. His career rate, including that, is 90%. That’ll likely come down. His k rate has definitely come down from his minor league rate, so we might see that pick back up.

His zips udate is .330 babip, .283/.359/.373 triple slash, .347 wOBA. He’s a pretty good fielder, so that line makes him a pretty good player.

4.7 WAR

in 589 career plate appearances (.337 career wOBA). That includes his poor batting line his first year, but also his freakish UZR his first year. Maybe he settles in as a 3-4 WAR player. Not bad at all.
