Dynasty Trade involving Clay Buchholz - With Poll

Mixed 16 team 5x5, H-2H Dynasty, no salaries. Keep players as long as you'd like.

Clay Buchholz for Jon Papelbon.

I'd be getting Paplebon on a win now team, with some current need at the closer position although I usually base my trade decisions on the long term merits so I'm not unduly influenced by my weakness at closer.

Buchholz is almost 4 years younger and certainly has more upside, although with each outing I become a bit more convinced that "he is what he is". Paps, despite last night's debacle, should still be a reliable source of saves for a few more years.  On the other hand, in a dynasty format Paplebon's value is exclusively linked to saves (a role that sometimes has a short shelf life), while Buchholz is an SP with skills

Anyway, very interested in thoughts on this exchange and comments as I know that there are a lot of Red Sox & Yankee fans who have views on these players.

Thank You.

Win Now

Papelbon gets the nod if you have the need as you say you do.
As a side note: If Buchholz gets traded to say the Padres in a package deal to bring Adrian Gonzalez over, his value takes an immediate bump up. Just a thought.

Buch

should be a dominant starter. My only concern with him is between the ears. Seems to get rattled easily. If he has a great season or switches teams I could see him getting enough confidence for this to become a non-issue.

Paps velocity isn’t getting better and it seems he’s moved further and further away from being a multiple pitch guy, which isn’t good as the velocity declines.
