Adeiny Hechavarria
According to Ben Badler on twitter:
Blue Jays prospect Adeiny Hechavarria is scheduled to make his professional debut for High-A Dunedin on Friday.
The 21-year-old Cuban shortstop has been playing in extended spring training since signing a four-year, $10 million contract with the club last month. Look for him to stick with Dunedin for a brief while before earning a promotion to Double-A New Hampshire. Many believe he could find his way to the majors within the next two years.Anybody know much about him? It seems inevitable that his career will be closely linked with Jose Iglesias. How would you compare the two? Hechavarria actually received a more lucrative contract but I know that doesn't always correlate with being a better prospect.

I think hech projects to have a better bat with decent defense, I’ve read that some believe he may move to 3b. Jose on the otherhand is known for his great defense, the BoSox are hoping he hits enough to be a major league regular.
Honestly, no one knows a thing.
The Blue Jays are extremely high on Hechavarria’s defensive upside, so I’m not sure where the 3B stuff is coming from.
Not sure exactly what you’re saying.
We’re talking about a Cuban kid that almost no one has seen play. The FIRST reports were that Hech was better defensively than Iglesias but not as good with the bat (Hech played SS and Iglesias 2B when they played together for Cuba)…then there were reports that there was no way he was going to stick at SSS and that CF was his future. Then a few weeks ago Callis said that Hech wasn’t as good defensively as Iglesias but that he had more upside with the bat. How can you possibly get so many completely conflicting reports?
The only solid thing you can go on at this point is the Blue Jays’ own observations from what they have seen so far. Every report I have read states that he has impressed and made some spectacular defensive plays. Of course a lot of that could be self-congratulating; but I fail to see how the Blue Jays are so impressed with his defense and that somehow translating to him having to shift over to 3B? He doesn’t even have the bat for 3B.
The Blue Jays own personal analysis right now is that he has great defensive upside, and his bat right now is more of a line-drive inside-out swing.
