in terms of numbers and what I see as his upside, he kind of reminds me of Tim Alderson
from 2 years ago, when he didn’t suck and when he was a Giant
Adoptive parent of Kyle Nicholson
I don't think so
His upside isn’t as high, but he really could settle in as a back of the rotation innings eater type.

Jason Parks at BBTiA
Recently posted a detailed scouting report.
Ross is a short, athletic pitcher with the makings of two plus pitches and above-average command/control. Lacks elite size or physical projection, but uses pitch movement and the ability to throw strikes to force weak contact and miss bats. If CU and SL continue to improve, Ross will have three solid-average to plus pitches to work with. Tool-based grade: 56; solid-average #3 starter at the major league level.
Ceterum censeo, Ron Washington esse delendam
Ross was good, but don't forget Erlin and Tullis
Erlin went 2IP 2H 0R 0BB 3K – 22K, 4 BB in 20.1 IP this year
Tullis went 1IP 0H 0R 0BB 2K – 20K, 4BB in in 17.1IP this year — and over a 60% ground ball rate

mike trout thus far
44 hits, 11 for XBH. ISO = .187 [very good]
BB% 10.6, K% 14.1 … BABIP = .404 [so this will come regress a bit] (though worth noting that in rookie ball/low-a last year, his babip was even higher and in 65 more PAs)
he doesn’t turn 19 until august.
i am just uber-impressed. really, outside of Stanton, Trout has had the most impressive first month+ to me.
lotta goood names on bump today!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Deolis Guerra gets promoted to AAA Rochester today
He is now the youngest pitcher in the International League…
After not showing great K Numbers in AA, but showing quite possibly the best command and strike Zone judgement of his career.

It's Scary
That he’s the youngest pitcher, seeing that he was traded what? Four years ago?

Anyone know anything on this kid?
yeah
he’s the replacement for that David Wright guy by the end of the season
Ike Davis first, Lutz next Who needs that David Wright guy anyway? from what i can tell Wright has little to no power Lutz can show him a thing or two

dickwad
you ever heard of a move from a position or trade bait???
It was a question for those who might have some info on him, not on some jackass response that he’s somehow going to supplant David Wright by year’s end.

ok
apology accepted ;0
seriously though, if anyone knows anything on the kid would be interested. He’s posted some pretty good numbers this year (and decent last year).
Lutz
Bryce,
Here’s what BA (paraphrasing) had entering the year, he was #21 on the NYM list:
2007-5th Rd Pick- Alvernia (Pa)
D3 POY in 2007 (as a Senior)
Fractured Navicular bone on top of foot, in 1st inning of 1st pro game-causing speed and range to suffer
Value lies solely in bat
Compact swing, good avg, at least gap power, controls strike zone well
Scout reference of Ron Coomer
Hope that helps
Kyle Gibson so far tonight
4 innings, 2 hits, 0 runs, 0 walks, 4 k’s
5 ground-ball outs, 0 fly-outs
He has to be close to getting promoted to AA, right? I’d like to see him challenges. Those ground ball outs are really ridiculous

so far… 5IP, 1H, 0R, 4K, 0BB. He’s got a 2.63 ERA and 35K-12BB in 37.2IP. He’s the 6th youngest player in the Sally.
also
no HR allowed yet. His FIP is solidly lower, as before today his BABIP against was .347.

I was also watching his game and he made five (count ’em) nice plays at first, demonstrating an advanced feel for the position with good picks and stretches despite this being his first year locked in there.
i'm probably more optimistic about Koby then ever before
This is even more of a confirmation that bloodlines really DO mean something, no matter how unlikely the player may seem to have a chance.
even Tony Gwynn Jr is in the show.

I think he will be an ML average bat and a plus defender at first base (if there is such a thing) succeeding Berkman at the big league level. That’s just my feeling.
wow
You think he’s going to be an above-average first major league first baseman, while it seems that most of the experts think he’s a fringe major leaguer at best.
Quite the gap.
The main reason scouts had been doubtful about him is that he had no defensive position. If he’s settling in as a good defender at first base, that goes a long way.
that's not the main reason.
The main reason is that he is a bat-first guy with questionable offensive projection to the major league level.
1.055 OPS last year (yes, at Lancaster, but he had nearly the same numbers on the road), .913 OPS so far this season.
look, I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you
Nor do I lack the ability to count. I’m just telling you how it goes.
Yes, I know.
I’m just telling you my gut feeling when I watch the guy play and based on his numbers the last couple seasons. I could be dead wrong and they could be right, but I like what I see from the kid.
You'll never guess
who hit a HR, this Mike Stanton fellow. Also a couple walks.
Arrieta 7IP 4H 2ER 6K 5BB
What’s going on with his command?
He’s had starts where he walks 5 guys, then he’ll go out and walk none or one. He’s been pretty inconsistent so far, his command is becoming a bigger issue.
by Jordan Tuwiner on May 10, 2010 11:23 PM EDT up reply actions
Yeah, his command didn't seem this bad last year
I wonder if he’s working on his secondary pitches more
That was the case last season. He ditched his curve and really focused on his changeup last year when he was promoted to Norfolk.
I’ll try to find some more info and let you know.

Indians
Columbus:
Wes Hodges: 3-5 with a HR, now hitting .325 on the year (.378 OBP)
Carlos Santana: 2-5
Jason Donald: 2-5 with 2 runs scored and wondering why he is not with the big league club
Akron:
Chisenhall: 0-4. Things are starting to not look so great…still have a lot of hope. hitting .267 on the year, with a .336 OBP with no homers.
De La Cruz: 6 IP, 5 hits and 7 K
Kinston:
TJ McFarland had a good start…6IP, 2 hits and 6 K. Now 3-0, 0.73 ERA on the season with 19 hots and 13 K in 24
Lake County:
I like catcher Roberto Perez. .418 OBP with a HR and 8 RBI. Only hitting .238 but has a 25/16 BB to K ratio. He is 22, but seems to have solid skills.

We could be seeing
a situation like Lars Anderson’s last season. Some people thought Lars had some kind of injury he wasn’t bringing up… who knows though with Chiz
PPPPPPUNTO 4 MVP 2010
Chisenhall is a plus defender (or at least a potential plus defender) at 3B
Even if he has a Lars Anderson-esque year, that alone will keep him in the top 50.
I still really like
Wes Hodges I have for about 3 years now
I think for Cleveland he’d make a fine 1st Basemen
and if he could be used at 3B in the Majors that would even be a bigger plus with Andy Farte Marte stinkin up the place

I just think Herbert Perry when I see his numbers and hear about his skillset. He will probably be a major leaguer, but I would actually be surprised if he ever ends up being a regular (I think that possibility ended when he couldn’t handle 3B).
"God, I'm from Cleveland. When is it going to be our time?"
I still love
the story of him hitting left-handed his senior year of high school after the wrist injury. I’ll always be a fan, if only for that.
Few Guys I'm following for a league..
Bryan Morris:
6 IP, 3 H, 1 BB, 4 K … hasn’t allowed an earned run since April 20th.
40.2 IP, 34 H, 5 BB, 36 K, 1.71 GO/AO in a repeat of Hi-A. … is he busting out?
Tyler Chatwood:
5.2 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 6 K … command still shoddy, stuff seems to be good.
37.2 IP, 33 H, 20 BB, 39 K … still new to pitching, young at Hi-A, undersized.
Morris...
doesn’t belong at High A anymore. His ERA is ridicoulis. If he doesn’t move up after this start I am going to be pissed. Many believe he has better stuff than anyone in the Pirates system including the major league club.
ETHAN MARTIN!!!!
more royals guys
Montgomery: 6 ip, 4 h, 1 er, 2 bb, 3 k (9/4 gb/fb)
Hosmer: 1-4, bb, walk off double (.409/.492/.582)
Myers: 2-5, double (.261/.360/.452)
baseball rules.
Alex Colome
6 innings, 4 hits, 1 run, 1 BB, 6 K
Anyone seen him pitch this year? His walks are down vs last year while pitching at a higher level. 12Bb in 40 IP (3.38) this year, vs 32 in 76 innings last year . K’s are also down, although he’s still K’ing a shade over a better per inning
-1 and only member of the Nick Weglarz fan club!
He's a huge prospect
I’m hoping they promote him to A+ this year. The Rays rarely do, but he’s 21 and ready for it.
