Andrew Lambo Suspended for 50

Lambo is suspended for 50 games following his second positive test for a controlled substance. Damn,I was just developing a man crush on him. Hope we don't has another Jeremy Jeffress on our hands.  Where was he on your list of top prospects and how has this affected his prospect status? LLLLLLLLLLLL-EEEEEEEEEEEEEE-GGGGGGGGGGGGG-AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-LLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL-IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII-ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ-EEEEEEEEEEEEEEE and we can keep some of our top prospects playing.  Keep your heads up Red Sox Nation.

what?

Lambo is with the Dodgers, not the Red Sox.

His prospect status is unaffected. If anything, it’s kind of funny that you can make the argument that he plays better when crunk.

Not sure how you can say his prospect status is unaffected. Sure his baseball skills are the same but one more violation and that doesn’t matter because he will be lucky to get signed in Japan.

I still don't understand why marijuana is tested for

This doesn’t change my opinion of Lambo at all.

don't get it either

I could see teams testing in order to help a player kick a habit or something, but league-wide testing just seems like a bad place to spend money, there are more pressing issues in baseball than this.

But think of the children!

Once he’s on the 40 man, it won’t matter anymore.

As long as the testing is being conducted fairly, I have no problem with testing for illegal substances, performance enhancing or otherwise. Judging by Selig’s annual salary, I don’t think MLB is struggling too much for cash flow. I understand many people equate smoking pot to nothing more than smoking cigarettes but it is still illegal. Do you feel the same about testing players and punishing them for more harmful drugs like heroine, cocaine, crack, etc? Is it different for other businesses that test for drugs? You can’t get a job at Lowes without a drug test.

I know we are all fans of the sport and primarily concerned with their ability on the field but I don’t think you can just ignore stuff like this.

Are we all just assuming it's pot

I mean, it probably is, but I’m wondering if this has been verified anywhere.

by OldDutchPots on May 1, 2010 8:47 PM EDT reply actions

No I haven’t read what he is being suspended for.

by jfish26101 on May 1, 2010 8:58 PM EDT up reply actions

It hasnt been confirmed

However, he smoked in HS, and was suspended once before for pot. Also, TBLA said he was banned for use of a drug of abuse.. aka, its probably pot

well . . .

1) Lincecum couldn’t just do that. He broke a law and was punished accordingly.
2) Lincecum never failed a drug test in violation of a professional conduct policy that he was subject to (as far as we know).

Tim Lincecum is on the 40 man roster

Under the collective bargaining agreement, players on the 40 man can smoke weed.

I’m not sure of the exact rules, whether they can’t be tested or just can’t be punished, but from what I’ve heard, a substantial percentage of major leaguers smoke weed with some regularity.

wait, what?!?! Are you serious?

That does make sense why we dont here of a lot of suspensions. But if you can do it in MLB, why not let them do it in MiLB? I mean, you are letting them do something illegal as long as they are on the 40 man? double standard much?

by lakersdodgersyankees4life on May 2, 2010 1:08 AM EDT up reply actions

Lack of unions

It’s not at the major leaguer level because of the MLBPA but they only represents major leaguers and people on the 40 man, not minor leaguers. Minor leaguers have no union to fight such things so they’re pretty much subject to whatever.

Is it ironic to be smoking while reading this?

If, so, call the irony police

You’re name has 2k9 in it — what are you some 8 year-old who makes Pillsbury Doughboy cookies and jerks off to that bullshit video game with Tim Lincecum on the cover--

Well

It’s as ironic as anything in that Alanis Morissette song …

So Lambo gets 50 games for ganj while Washington gets slapped on the wrist for cocaine?

And yet you’ve got guys using tobacco during every single minor league game (a drug of daily abuse that will kill you— how many ppl have died from pot in recorded history? That’s still a big goose-egg).

it’s these guys rights as human beings to use cannabis. and if they aren’t going to enforce their rules on tobacco at the ballpark than they’ve really got to take this discriminatory rule away, because it’s going to ruin careers otherwise. I just think it’s kind of a joke their whole drugs of abuse list includes marijuana, LSD, heroin and cocaine. First off how pot even enters the same discussion as heroin and cocaine is beyond me. If cannabis weren’t sold on the same market as these other drugs they’d literally have nothing in common. The gateway is made by the law. And then you’ve got LSD, which can only be tested for with a spinal tap. Now obviously, they aren’t spinal tapping these guys when they get tested. Which means it probably leaves a guy to get thrown under the bus by a teammate’s lies, ala Jordan Schafer. The whole minor league drug policy needs to be seriously re-thought because it’s prejudice and unjust.

legalize it, don't criticize it.
