Adeiny Hechevarria - Opinions/Comments
Adeiny Hechevarria - What do you all think?
The track record on Cuban imports has been so/so at best. Although with Kendry Morales now raking and Chapman wowing folks with his velo perhpas the tide has changed.
I don't know much about Adeiny Hechevarria but a $10M deal would be more than 2X what Sano got.
Where would folks who have any insight on Adeiny Hechevarria insert him into any Top 100 lists (if at all)?

I don't think it's fair to compare his deal to Sano's
Cuban deportees are so much different from other international signings, both in how advanced they are and in the process by which teams pursue and sign them.

all that matters is that he is a Blue Jay, so he won’t be up until he’s 27 but will tear it up and have a shortened career because he didn’t get his chance until too late

Please
Travis Snider, who spent much of the year in the Blue Jays’ OF, was the sixth youngest player in the league. The year before, when he was first called up, he was the youngest.
Yet Cito prefers to play players such as Randy Ruiz and Jose Bautista

Every team's fans complains that their manager doesn't play the kids
The Blue Jays hardly strike me as uniquely bad here.

Cito is gone after this year
so I hardly expect him to hold Hechevarria back at all.
I don't get your point
Lind was up in 2007 when he was 23 and he stunk. He was not ready. He went down to the minors and came back up in 2008 and was much improved. So for 2009 in his age 25 season he had the job full-time.
I don’t see any mismanagement of him. And I don’t see how giving a player a shot at age 23 and full-time role at age 25 has any relevance to your comments (re: so he won’t be up until he’s 27). As a matter of fact Lind is the perfect example of how they do bring up young players. And I’m sure you saw the slew of young pitchers up last year.
First thought is that-as of right now this is bad for Manny Machado's draft stock
Most mocks I’ve seen (including my personal mock) had the Blue Jays taking Machado at 11 overall but since they signed their SS of the future they probably won’t spend their first pick on a SS

Blue Jays will draft BPA. If they truly like Machado enough I cant see this having a whole lot of impact, especially considering that Hechevarria is still only 19-20 (reportedly) and will start somewhere in the low minors.
I just can't see them taking 2 young SS's-especially with the 11th pick in the draft

Depth is important
but with a premium pick-why would take a SS when you already feel you have a SS of the future

Because most draft picks and IFA don't work out anyway
Just take the BPA. If you end up with a surplus, that’s a good problem to have.
I think if the draft was held today
they would go a different direction-probably pitching- instead of taking a projected SS of the future when they just signed one

I think this affects mock drafts more than the real one
I assume the Blue Jays always have planned to take the BPA regardless of position, but now people throwing together mocks can’t just say “hmm… they need a shortstop!”
Fair enough

Actually, his stock has been rising dramatically of late.

Why are you sweating mock drafts now?
Especially for the 11th pick. It’s March.
That's true-I'm sure it will definitely change
but just the first thing that popped into my head when I heard about the signing
