Grichuk or Heathcott
Obviously late round dynasty talk here, but if you could have one of these guys, which would it be? Grichuk had a not horrible beginning in the AFL hitting like 290/330/550 with double digit doubles and triples, 8 homers a ton of RBI and a few steals in only 250 AB but also a 9:65 BB:K ratio (numbers off the top of my head), He has tremendous power but gets bagged on a lot by Sickels etc.
Heathcott is pure tools but has yet to play a minor league game, scouts seem to like him more but do you guys put any stock in Grichuks performance to rate him higher than heathcott? I give no weight to the off the field issues by the way. I guess my thoughts are that I like Heathcott more but if Grichuk took a few walks I feel like he would be a top 50 prospect

I don’t really believe in Grichuk’s approach…or general toolset. I did a lot of research into him myself for a similar function and his power is monstrous. He is very strong and his swing generates a ton of easy power.
Problematically, though, I’m not sure I think he’s very toolsy. He’s not likely to be a plus as a defender, or with speed. His numbers are entirely driven by ball in play data in the minors and he’s way too aggressive for my liking. His ceiling, IMO, is a Jeff Francoeur type with less defensive skills.
Grichuk
The HRs and XBHs as a 17 yr old is impressive. I wouldn’t really hold it against a kid that young that he didn’t control the strike zone very well in his first look at pro ball. if he doesn’t improve that next year its a concern but personally I’m not gonna too hung up on BB and K numbers at age 17. I think he will hit for a lot more power and overall I think his bat is going to be better. I don’t like comps because they are generally pretty useless but the bat reminds me of Brandon Wood.(I know, cheap organizational comp, lol)
Heathcott
There’s very little info out on either right now — and hopefully I’ll get to see both next month — but I’m not a big Grichuk believer. I’d rather have Slade.
Grichuk had a below-average strikeout rate and well-below-average walk rate in rookie ball (225 PA). He has a lot of adjustments to make. From the footage I’ve seen, he’s a very upright hitter…doesn’t use his lower half much. He doesn’t appear to recognize pitches well, either. There’s definitely some power and speed there. But I think he’s a project. And it wouldn’t surprise me if he never reaches the big leagues.
