Fantasy Minor League Draft Advice?
So we've got our minor league draft for our fantasy league coming up in a couple of weeks. Our league rules allow you to keep minor league players for as many years as possible until they get to the major leagues, so very young guys aren't given an extreme disadvantage. Many of the top prospects are already owned after many drafts in the past, but there is some very solid talent available. I've got picks 13 and 15, so I'll list the top 20 or so available prospects and I'm seeking advice as to who I should be aiming to select:
Martin Perez
Christian Friedrich
Ryan Westmoreland
Jennry Mejia
Matt Moore
Casey Crosby
Tyler Matzek
Mike Montgomery
Dee Gordon
Jaff Decker
Josh Bell
Mike Trout

Trout, Crosby
I’m a big fan of Trout, and think he probably has a good chance of making it to you at 13 out of that group.
Crosby looks good too, and it wouldn’t surprise me to see him last to there either.
Lawrie, Norris, Westmoreland, Moore, Trout
Id have to think that drabek, perez, chapman, kelly castro, gordon, matzek are probably locks to go in the top 10 but youd have to be happy getting any of the five guys listed above, i also love jaff decker to explode and i think you could get him at 15
Who Will Be Gone
I think we can safely assume that Perez, Chapman, Drabek, Taylor, Westmoreland, Starlin Castro and Kelly will all be gone by the time I pick at 13. I’m also not particularly keen on drafting the pitchers out of HS (Matzek and Turner). I’m thinking at #13 I’ll be choosing between Norris, Gordon, Chisenhall, Friedrich, Mejia, Moore, Crosby, Lawrie and Decker. Of that group, I’d definitely pick Chisenhall if he’s available, but I really have no idea who I’d pick if he’s not.
I'd also assume
Fiedrich and Mejia would be drafted as well. For me, the top 3 guys (most upside in my opinion) are Norris, Lawrie, and Gordon. I think Chisenhall, Crosby, Decker, and Moore would be solid players, but the top three have star potential (Gordon being the least likely to hit that).
Norris would be my first choice, and Lawrie would be a close second. It all depends on your needs. If you have a good catcher then I would go with Lawrie- who I think has an Ian Kinsler type bat with speed, but a Rickie Weeks type glove. (Kinsler is his ceiling-Weeks being his floor)
This is all just opinion though. I’m a huge Lawrie fan…
