Rasmus or Brett Anderson?
I have a Strat-o-Matic draft coming up, and one of these two should fall to me. Since it's Strat (not fantasy), stuff like defense, arm, and splits matter.
For the next 10 years, who would you rather have on your team, Colby Rasmus or Brett Anderson? I know both are pretty darn good, and I'm having trouble deciding.
Assume, for the sake of argument, that I need both. Thanks for your advice!

Potential all star 5 tool CF
Compared to a potential top rotation lefty. I’d say its close, depending on one’s needs
especially for something like StratO, or APBA, or DiamondMind
I love Anderson, but for simulation/re-creation purposes, an everyday guy like Rasmus with power and speed potential may be more valuable that Anderson. Of course, a left-handed ace is nice to have as well…..
I think some people may have a hard time understanding your question.
Obviously, since position/defense matters, there’s a pretty big premium for being a good defensive CF. Rasmus is a very good one, as his 13.7 UZR/150 and glowing scouting reports show . He was also a very good hitter for the first half of 2009, but was dreadful the second half. It was reported he was playing with an injured heel from July on, so I wonder how much that affected him.
I love Anderson, and I am more skeptical of Rasmus than I am him. That said, there are a lot of reasons to believe Rasmus will be a very valuable player in your format, even starting next year, only his age-23 season. If I were you, I think I’d rather lock down the potential impact player at an important defensive position and fill the hole in my rotation with low-cost pitching.
Are we saying that we have to have the guy for 10 years?
If we have to have the guy for 10 years, then I might be inclined to take Rasmus. The rational being that pitchers are much more likely to be injured, and thus become ineffective over that time period, than position players.
To put it this way, Mark Mulder and Barry Zito were awesome…. for about 5 or 6 years. Its been years afterwards that has been the problem.
BUT, if we’re talking a shorter term, like 5 years, I’d take Anderson.
Rasmus
Those that play Strat know unless you are a top 5 LHP don’t go there and a stud left-handed CF are worth their weight in gold.
It’s not a slam dunk … but it’s Rasmus over Anderson.
Why
Would you compare two players that play positions that require completely different skill sets?
It makes no sense, it truly is like comparing apples to oranges.
The only thing they have in common, is that they both have the potential to be great at their respective positions.
That and Rasmus was a pretty good left handed pitching prospect coming out of High School too.
Albert Pujols is a god, and you my friend should be doing no less than gravel at his feet.
