I'd probably buy one

Are you looking at doing this on your own, or going thru the guy Blez used for all the AN merchandise? My Athletics Nation shirt is getting pretty worn so I could use another somewhat obscure baseball shirt to replace it and to draw odd looks and questions.

sb

it would be through the SB Nation store.

by John Sickels on Feb 26, 2010 3:36 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah, I'd buy one

Putting anything on the back of the shirt? Like “In Sickels We Trust” or something like that?

shirt

No idea. At this point I’m just at the gauging interest stage.

Have you thought of trying to market Milb apparel and hats?

I could see myself buying things of that nature and with would also be a good marketing ploy to get more readers if it were linked to your site… I’m not sure of all the legal hassles, but I would definitely buy hats and jerseys…

I love this idea

If you could work out a deal for these products I would purchase a bunch of stuff.

I'd buy a shirt from you

even if it was god awful ugly and I never wear it. I just want to chip my two cents in to make sure you can continue doing what you do. I get more insightfl info from you and your contributors here then I do from an unnamed pay site.

Polo Shirt

I would buy one. Better yet, a collar-less shirt like a polo with a few buttons.

No

Personally I’m not interested.

Pretty lame logo

Not sure why I’d want anything with that logo on it. Sorry.

Wrong

John needs HONEST feedback when he is asking if people would invest in one of his new ventures. It does him no good to have all these people either tell him they would buy a shirt, or have them stay quiet, if in reality they know they really will not do so. That could cause him to lose money by making a bad investment.

Also, while footballstu could have worded his criticism more kindly, he does raise a valid point. If John does decide to go forward with his apparel, perhaps he should first create a new, more appealing logo for the website. If he received honest feedback on the new logo from the website, that would definitely help increase sales of the merchandise as it would be a logo that the majority of the community finds attractive.

feedback

KBR is right, I need honest feedback.

I’m planning a series of upgrades and new features on the site, and I need to know what works and what doesn’t. A new logo or look may be a part of it.

New logo

John if you got a different logo I would probably by a shirt. Something a little old school would be pretty sweet. I think it would be good if you got your readers to post their favorite minor league logos so you could get a feel for what they find visually appealing.

i agree about the logo

looks very outdated. maybe hit up some local / or non local graphic design students/kids if you don’t know of anyone

by daveh33 on Feb 27, 2010 4:17 PM EST up reply actions

yes.

you need a new logo. the steroid era is ostensibly over.

by larry on Feb 27, 2010 4:28 PM EST up reply actions

+1

Love the site, but honestly I think the logo is pretty weak. I agree that something without the juiced batter would work a lot better…

by St.Steve on Feb 27, 2010 7:44 PM EST up reply actions

Honestly, the logo doesn't really do anything for me

Unfortunately I don’t have any great ideas for one, but the cartoony, bulky slugger image just doesn’t grab me.

It’d probably be a good idea to avoid a derivative of an existing silhouetted player/bat/ball style logo, but keeping it simple would be a good idea.

Not too long ago I did a t-shirt based on the idea of using a photo I took and turning it into a solid-style color (which made the printing process very simple, too) and it was very well-received by some A’s fans. That was just a fun little one-off idea I had, though. Hard to say what’d work best for a Sickels shirt.

I voted No, John

but that was based on the assumption of the existing logo…something more appealing to me, then “I’m in”…Good luck, hope you can swing it!

I might buy a Get Off My Lawn shirt

but that’s about it

no, but...

if the logo was something different i would be a lot more likely to do so.

basically

So basically the main theme here is that the logo sucks.

It’s five years old and needs to be updated in any event. I’m thinking something less cartoony and more classic-looking. I have to consult with a graphic designer.

by John Sickels on Feb 28, 2010 9:48 PM EST reply actions

Suggestion

Why don’t you appeal to the community and see if anyone can come up with something? Hiring a graphic designer can be quite expensive. Perhaps you could contact a local college and see if anyone would be interested in working on it for a co-op position.

A design our new logo contest

Give away copies of the book to the top 3 designs in your estimation, then have a community vote for a winner.

If it wasn't for disappointments, I wouldn't have any appointments.
