Rookie Class of 2010- Best Prospect for Future Performance #20
Spirited voting last round, with 12 different players getting at least one vote. The only one who didn't get any votes was Brett Wallace, who has obviously fallen like a rock from his B+ rating in John's book last year. A clear plurality went to Ike Davis, to earn him honors as #19 rookie from last year's class. Here is the breakdown of the voting:
Ike Davis 32%, Reid Brignac 15%, Tyler Colvin 15%, Johnathon Niese 9%, Carlos Carassco 6%, Mike Leake 6%, Neil Walker 4%, Jose Tabata 4%, Michael Saunders 4%, Travis Wood 2%, John Jaso, 2%, Gaby Sanchez 3%, Brett Wallace 0%
And, here are the standings so far:
1. Jason Heyward, outfielder Atlanta Braves
2. Buster Posey, catcher San Francisco Giants
3. Stephen Strasburg, pitcher Washington Nationals
4. Carlos Santana, catcher Cleveland Indians
5. Michael Stanton, outfielder Florida Marlins
6. Madison Bumgarner, pitcher San Francisco Giants
7. Starlin Castro, shortstop Chicago Cubs
8. Brian Matusz, Pitcher Baltimore Orioles
9. Pedro Alvarez, third base, Pittsburgh Pirates
10. Neftali Feliz, pitcher, Texas Rangers
11. Logan Morrison, outfielder Florida Marlins
12. Jhoulys Chacin, pitcher Colorado Rockies
13. Daniel Hudson, pitcher Arizona Diamondbacks
14. Justin Smoak, first base, Seattle Mariners
15. Jaime Garcia, pitcher St Louis Cardinals
16t. Austin Jackson, outfielder Detroit Tigers
16t. Ryan Kalish, outfielder, Boston Red Sox
16t. Wade Davis, pitcher Tampa Bay Rays
19. Ike Davis, first base, New York Mets
Based on last round's voting I am going to drop Brett Wallace who got no votes and Travis Wood who got one. I'm also not adding Gaby Sanchez even though he was nominated as a write in and got one vote. I am going to bring back John Axford, and, for the first time I am going to add Jonny Venters and Josh Thole. I am also keeping on the ballot Mike Leake and Tyler Colvin who were nominated as write ins last round based on their significant vote totals.
Temporarily dropped players: Peter Bourjos 0% (14), Jake Arrieta 0% (14), Mitch Moreland 0% (15), Michael Brantley 0% (16), Danny Valencia 0% (16), Brennan Boesch 0% (16), Gaby Sanchez 2% (19), Travis Wood 2% (19), John Jaso 2% (19), Brett Wallace 0% (19)
.Players who I am planning on adding in the near future are Drew Storen, Andrew Cashner, Alcides Escobar and Alexi Ogando.
Other players who I am considering, althought I may not get to them without some positive discussion, are Ian Desmond, Chris Johnson, Kila Ka'aihue, Brooks Conrad, Alex Sanabia, Wilton Lopez and Sergio Santos. If you want any of these guys added, or if you want anyone else added who isn't mentioned above, please discuss below.
As a reminder voting is by +1.

+1 travis wood
this guy is so underrated… LHP struck out nearly 8 per 9…. and with a very low walk rate of 2.3 per 9 and didnt give up many hits (7.5 Hits per 9 and 9 HR in 102 IP).. even though he pitched in such a hitters park… all at 23 years old… and he had 202 IP total this year minors and majors..
wheres the love for this guy…

Left hander with good numbers and good scouting reports…. can’t believe he is still on the board.
i understand actualy why hes still not been chosen yet
look how good this list is….
Wood dodged a bullet with that flyball rate last year, but I can't project that for the future.
I’ll take the better swing/miss stuff and groundballedness of Jon Niese.
+1 to that
I like Travis Wood and think he’ll hold a starting job for some time, but give me Niese over him for sure.

i like woods fastball better, and hes younger
but the biggest advantage niese hs is ballpark hes playing in
I can buy the fastball argument
but I don’t think 4 months difference in age really matters much at all.

oh lol
thought he was younger nevermind that then

They have the same average velocity, so I prefer the fastball that's harder to elevate and induces more misses.
Not sure what the logic is behind the opposing viewpoint.
Agreed. Niese had a similar (ever so slightly better) K/9
A batter worse BB/9, but had a 47% GB% to Wood’s 30% and had a BABIP of .335 to Wood’s .272 while having a slightly better LD% against (Niese had 20%, Wood had 21%)
One thing Wood does do a lot better though is have a name funny comments can be made with. Like when he was struggling a little bit a against the Mets this season and the pitching coach came out to talk to him, Gary Cohen said something like “Brian Price is gonna come out here and try and massage Wood through the inning.” If only Dick Pole was still the pitching coach.

If knowledge is the key, then just show me the lock.
Got the scrawny legs but I move just like Lou Brock.
When is Brandon Wood going to get mentioned??
I kid. I kid.

sore subject with me
bought into the Brandon Wood hype once last time in my fantasy league this past year. Surely he was ready to finally put the past behind him and start a decent career when given a clear shot at a job. Needless to say, It wasn’t pretty.
Doesn't qualify, lost his rookie eligibility last year
He was on last year’s list.

The Mets grossly mishandled him in 2010, but his rookie eligibility is now gone. Tremendous talent.
you are right
He does make eligibility for this list based on service time although he is under 50 innings. I will get him on next round.
Kila and Desmond deserve to be on the rotation atsome point. Maybe not yet
but soon. I’d consider them fairly soon.
