Rookie Class of 2010 Best Prospect for Future Performance #14
I haven't yet decided whether to take this out to 25 spots like we did in 2008 or 27 like we did in 2009, but either way we are at just about the half way mark in this poll, and we still aren't done adding players who have the potential to have long, all star level careers.
This time it was a close two man race for the #13 spot. Daniel Hudson narrowly edged out Justin Smoak for second place in round 12, this time he edges Smoak out for first to emerge as the #13 rookie from last year's class:
Daniel Hudson 35%, Justin Smoak 32%, Jaime Garcia 16%, Ike Davis 5%, Austin Jackson 4%, Wade Davis 4%, Ryan Kalish 4%, John Axford 2%, Travis Wood 0%, Jonathon Niese 0%, Michael Saunders 0%
It looks like we may be headed toward some wide open voting in a couple of rounds.
The overall standings are now:
1. Jason Heyward, outfielder Atlanta Braves
2. Buster Posey, catcher San Francisco Giants
3. Stephen Strasburg, pitcher Washington Nationals
4. Carlos Santana, catcher Cleveland Indians
5. Michael Stanton, outfielder Florida Marlins
6. Madison Bumgarner, pitcher San Francisco Giants
7. Starlin Castro, shortstop Chicago Cubs
8. Brian Matusz, Pitcher Baltimore Orioles
9. Pedro Alvarez, third base, Pittsburgh Pirates
10. Neftali Feliz, pitcher, Texas Rangers
11. Logan Morrison, outfielder Florida Marlins
12. Jhoulys Chacin, pitcher Colorado Rockies
13. Daniel Hudson, pitcher Arizona Diamondbacks
I'm going to temporarily drop Travis Wood, Jonathon Niese and Michael Saunders. I'm going to return Mike Leake and Peter Bourjos and for the first time add Jake Arrieta.
temporarily dropped players: Mitch Moreland 0% (8), Danny Valencia 0% 11, Neil Walker 0% (12), Jose Tabata 0% (12), Carlos Carassco 0% (12), Travis Wood 0% (13), Jonathon Niese 0% (13), Michael Saunders 0% (13)
Players who have been suggested for addition in coming rounds include Michael Brantley, Josh Thole, Johnny Venters, Drew Storen, Gaby Sanchez and Andrew Cashner. Other players that I am looking at adding soon are Brennan Boesch, Reid Brignac, Tyler Colvin and Alexi Ogando. If you have any preferences among this group, even if you are not quite ready to vote for them, you can discuss below.
As a reminder voting is by +1. Please add write in votes in the space provided.

though if he were still on, I’d be tempted by Niese, he’s pretty darn good. Probably still Smoak though

I don't get ...
… why this guy isn’t getting more love. He wasn’t as hyped as some others coming into the season, but he was coming off an injury, he had a great year, he has four plus pitches, he had a 55% GB rate, he has Dave Duncan. I like him ahead of four of five people who are already off the board, and certainly ahead of Smoak, who looked lost this year.

If knowledge is the key, then just show me the lock.
Got the scrawny legs but I move just like Lou Brock.

QUESTION: Is Carlos Carrasco no longer technically a prospect?

less than 50 IP this year
but altogether over 50 which is what matters for ROY eligibility
I find the Smoak love interesting.
Is it that many think this past years stats in the majors were flukish?
They seem to be
and he was hitting great after being called up again in September.
