Ranking the 2010 draftees

For fantasy purposes: I have a MiLB draft in the coming months, which includes all 2010 draftees and IFA's.

Who would you rank as the top 20 or so fantasy players from the 2010 MLB first-year player draft / International Free Agent signings?

Star-divide

Of course, there are guys like Harper, Taillon, and Machado who will most likely be everyone's top 3 ranks, but it becomes a lot tougher after those listed. I'm looking for a more in depth evaluation, and I trust your opinions.

RE

I was going to make a separate post about my league’s draft. Just to show people how it went. I don’t have any picks in the top rounds for two reasons. I didn’t want to follow the draft THAT closely during my first semester at law school, and secondly because I was able to move into picks 1 and 5 next season. Anyway, here are the top 16 picks thus far…

Bryce Harper
Jameson Taillon
Manny Machado
Matt Harvey
Drew Pomeranz
Michael Choice
Christian Colon
Josh Sale
Kolbrin Vitek
Yasmani Grandal
Zach Cox
Chris Sale
Jake Skole
Justin O’Conner
Alex Wimmers
Nick Castellanos

Thanks man.

Surprised O’Conner was taken so early. He struggled in his debut, albeit a small sample size though.

by smk1363 on Nov 28, 2010 10:20 PM EST up reply actions

Agreed.

I worry that he won’t hit for a high enough average.

by mr. maniac on Nov 29, 2010 11:09 PM EST up reply actions

Surprised

Colon was taken that early as he’s bound to be better in reality than fantasy.

by Havok1517 on Nov 29, 2010 12:21 AM EST up reply actions

Wow

Someone was way high on Harvey, and everyone was way low on Chris Sale.

As the guy who took Sale

I was very happy with the way that turned out.

Rockies cleaned up.

was that you?

Taillon, Machado, and Josh Sale is very nice for those picks at the top, but adding Harvey and Cole at 22 and 32 is just robbery.

by acerimusdux on Nov 29, 2010 12:22 AM EST up reply actions

Yea I'm the Rockies

I also got Cecchini at #54, and I thought I had waited too long. Like dbreer said below, he’s a steal after about 35 picks or so.

If everybody likes you, then either no one knows anything about you, or you're dead.

by Archie A on Nov 29, 2010 2:08 AM EST up reply actions

To go along with Cowart and Castellanos...

your draft is pretty amazing. That probably means your current team sucks though. At least you have an amazing future to look forward to. If only half of these guys work out you still have the best draft by far.

ETHAN MARTIN!!!!

Actually I won the championship this year

as a wildcard. I’ve got a middle of the road club with a ton of young talent and lucked into it this year.

A little surprised that guys like Workman went before someone like Ty Linton.

by Dan Strittmatter on Nov 29, 2010 9:04 AM EST up reply actions

Why?

Workman is a very good prospect. He was a complete steal at where the Red Sox drafted him.

by Jeff Reese on Nov 29, 2010 10:01 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed

and Linton wasn’t a lock to sign. It looked like he was locked into going to UNC at the time of both the real draft and our draft.

by Archie A on Nov 29, 2010 10:03 AM EST up reply actions

Ah

I totally forgot that that factored in. Linton’s ceiling seemed enticing, but this is an end-of-June list. Bah.

Garin Cecchini, SS/3B, BOS

If he’s still there after the first 40-50 picks, I’d grab him. He was a likely 1-supp or 2nd rd pick (borderline 1st rder based on some reports) before a knee injury during his senior year.

by dbreer23 on Nov 29, 2010 1:57 AM EST reply actions

I wonder

no one has mentioned any of the IFAs.

Is it that you allow them to be picked up throughout the year? Or just didnt want to mix them up?

My league freezes all unsigned players as of draft day. Players who aren’t under a major league contract at that day can’t be signed until the next draft day.

by ADLC on Nov 29, 2010 2:54 AM EST reply actions

We do a separate IFA auction

give each team a $15 Mil budget.

Highest Bids
Luis Heredia, SP- $12 Mil
Adonis Cardona, SP – $6.9 Mil
Eskarlin Vasquez, OF – $5.6 Mil
Carlos Martinez(Matias), SP – $4.9 Mil
Steilon Peguero, SS – $3 Mil
Vicmal De La Cruz, OF – $2.5 Mil

All of those guys are pretty good, and Elvis Sanchez would be another quality guy to look at.

If everybody likes you, then either no one knows anything about you, or you're dead.

by Archie A on Nov 29, 2010 10:39 AM EST up reply actions

Wow, Martinez (Matias) was a steal

I’d definitely take him over anyone else on that list.

http://bullpenbanter.com/

by Jeff Reese on Nov 29, 2010 10:54 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah, the difference between Heredia and Martinez is odd

I’d take Martinez for $5M over Heredia for $12M for sure.

$100 Mil for ML team
50 Prospect Limit, no cost to carry them
$15 Mil for IFA auction, money starts counting when player is called up or penalty if they’re cut before called up

If everybody likes you, then either no one knows anything about you, or you're dead.

IFA

I assume no one is mentioning IFAs because the question asks about 2010 draftees.

Our league (above) has similar rules. IFAs have to be drafted the month after they have signed (August is a big month for us – and we have a draft each month).

by JD Sussman on Nov 29, 2010 11:10 AM EST up reply actions

Yeah the title only said draftees,

but I made sure I mentioned IFA’s in the actual post.
Just so we’re clear, I am interested in both draftees and IFA’s.

Where would you guys draft Carlos Matias (Martinez) and Luis Heredia?

by smk1363 on Nov 29, 2010 12:15 PM EST up reply actions

Opps my mistake

Heredia is a lot of unknowns right now. Its tough to say… Looking quickly at Arichie’s draft above, I’d have them around Wimmers.

by JD Sussman on Nov 29, 2010 12:31 PM EST up reply actions

Agree with JD

both would be late 2nd/early 3rd round guys in the draft

Apology accepted

0-P Playful cyclops noticed your mistake.

by ADLC on Nov 30, 2010 7:00 PM EST up reply actions

We just do the one

usually its a slowdraft (its gotten harder to get together for a live draft with 18 teams). So guys like Maya are still available.

by ADLC on Nov 30, 2010 7:01 PM EST up reply actions

Also,

Where would Tsuyoshi Nishioka be draftable?
