Rangers sign Barret Loux
The Rangers have signed Barret Loux, a pitcher who was the Diamondbacks No. 1 draft pick but then declared a free agent after they couldn't come to an agreement.
Well, they reached an agreement but then Loux failed his physical. He has both shoulder and elbow issues that are of a concern.
Loux did not sign with Arizona prior to this year's August 16 deadline, and Commissioner Bud Selig ruled on August 17 that Loux would become a free agent on September 1. Loux has been attending classes at Texas A&M University in pursuit of his degree, and has continued throwing in College Station this fall.
With the signing of Loux, the Rangers now have 5 of the first 49 selections in the 2010 June draft under contract.
Supposed bonus for the former #6 pick is $312,000.

Rangers
give us your injured, your troubled, your volatile live arms yearning to breathe free. I like this signing a lot. A very decent price to take a chance on, potential high reward for very little risk.

it's not bad
Considering how many teams took a good look at him, the fact that he only got $312k probably says that the health concerns aren’t being overblown . . .and seeing as the major league teams are the ones with access to more detailed information regarding his health, I have to take a “wait and see” on this, no matter what the cost.
Still, it makes sense that Loux would like the sound of getting to stay in Texas. I imagine he goes to the Cal next year, but if healthy he’d probably move relatively fast and with the Rangers having teams in Frisco and Round Rock, the opportunity to stay close to home is there for him. I’m happy a tough situation worked out well enough for him . . .the last guy that this happened to (Tim Stauffer) got next to nothing out of his situation, but in what might be a good sign for Loux, Stauffer seems to be establishing himself quite nicely in the majors.
Why when I see his name do I think of Chris LeDoux

The Jays are, definitely
And I hope the same is true for the D-backs.

Between Loux and Justin Grimm...
that’s a pretty impressive haul of talented, injured college pitchers.
I misspoke.
For some reason I thought injuries were what ailed him late in the year at Georgia. Turned out I was confusing him with Jesse Hahn. All that was bothering Grimm was that he doesn’t really know how to pitch.
I think it's his delivery
He has good stuff, but he was the quickest windup I have ever seen. It’s almost as if you were watching a regular windup at 2x speed. I have to imagine that affects his control.

Makes sense.
Never seen him pitch personally, but it’s always frustrating to watch a guy with frontline stuff get battered by collegiate hitters. Nice upside for a 5th-rounder, though.
Texas’s farm system continues to be the class of the AL West, even in a year where they’ve forsaken international free agents.
