Not the best system...
but not as bad as most think. All ten of these guys are at least a little interesting.
ETHAN MARTIN!!!!
+1
I agree, a player like Crosby at 6 lends credence to what you’re saying. Anyone else think that they’re little too optimistic with Castellanos?
no
Castellanos is awesome. I’d say it’s more like they’re being too optimistic with Crosby!
with you on castellanos
think the Tigers did a good job of getting him in the suplimental round, as they were void of a first round selection

I'm cool with most of that list,
but Garcia and Ortega are ridiculous choices, IMO. Garcia registered a 3.8% walk rate and a sub-.100 ISO. The only thing he did well was steal bases (20/24). I know BA is all about tools, but there are definitely better choices in the Tigers system (Villareal, Wilk, Furbush, and Schlereth to name a few)
Schlereth graduated
And the rest? Meh. I don’t have any problem at all with them choosing tools over the rest of the guys in that system.

Martinez at 4?
Is he expected to develop above-average power? Hard to see his on-base skills improving enough to rank him that high.
I’d think Crosby would be a better fit at 4, and keep Fields at 5…really excited to see Fields develop, he’s done really well compared to much more seasoned competition.
not really
I don’t get the love for Crosby other than him being a notable name. Really, the only reason why this guy would be there is that people knew his name from last year.
Well he still has a ton of upside
But the injuries definitely depress his stock. I like where he’s placed on this list. It’s going to be interesting to see what happens in 2011 with him (assuming he avoids season-ending bone bruises).

sure
There’s still upside, but I don’t think he’s the sort of guy for whom it should be said “yeah, he’s a better fit higher on the list.” The fact that he’s on the list at all is a credit to his power arm, let’s not push it.
I suppose he still projects as a possible power reliever from the left side, which is nice.
Yeah, I agree with that
I just don’t see anyone lower that I’d rather have. Ruffin and Smyly are nice, but we’re not talking about much upside with either.

To be realy aggressive...
Fields could be moved to #4…think Smyly could really move up this list quickly as well.
Villareal
Surprised me. I thought he’d be a lot higher. He has great stuff. I guess the size is an issue, but he has two plus pitches.
