2011 MLB Mock Draft #2

This is my 2nd Mock, I will be doing 4, but i'm going to wait until a little before Spring Training to do #3, and then #4 right before the draft. I know my first two are close together, but I just felt like I should do the 2nd one earlier than planned.

1-Pirates- Anthony Rendon 3B-Rice- Purke or Rendon, Rendon or Purke? Tis pick seems to depend on whoever the Pirates feel will help the organization the most. Ive flipped between Rendon and Purke a lot, but I think Rendon will be the #1 pick.

2-Mariners- Matt Purke-LHP-TCU- After the Pirates take Rendon, the next best players are Matt Purke and Gerrit Cole. The M's need a bat, but I just don't see them reaching for a guy like George Springer at #2. I say the M's go with Purke because he would be a great lefty ace to go along with Felix and Micheal Pineda.

3-DBacks- Gerrit Cole-RHP-UCLA- DBacks are going to draft pitching, and Cole is one of the best. I just dont see them passing up on him.

4- Orioles-Sonny Gray-RHP-Vandy - O's need a true ace, and Gray could be the closest one to that since Purke and Cole are off the board.

5-Royals- Bubba Starling-OF-HS (Kansas) Has a lot of raw talent, is a hometown guy, and the Royals dont have a true 5-tool prospect yet. I just see this pick happening.

6-Nationals- George Springer-OF-UConn- Springer would be a good pick at 6 and he would be a great pick for the improving Nats. Just imagine an outfield with Geroge Springer and Bryce Harper...

7-DBacks- Jack Armstrong-Vandy This may be a bit of a reach, but this is an unprotected pick and Armstong is better than their pick last year, should be signable, and brining in 2 college pitchers would be big for Arizona.

8-Indians- Daniel Norris-HS (Tennessee) The Indians have gone the college pitching route the last 2 years, and I see them going the HS route this year and Norris is just too good to pass up at #6, but I could see George Springer going here as well.

9-Cubs- Henry Owens-LHP-HS (CA)- This picks also may be a reach, but with the Cubs, I can see this happening. Owens is one of my favorite pitchers in this draft, and the Cubs dont have a great young lefty in their system, and unless Daniel Norris somehow drops this far, its Owens for me.

10-Padres- Jackie Bradley Jr-OF-South Carolina- Jackie Bradley really impressed me in the CWS, and he would be a nice find for the Padres at #10.

11-Astros- Taylor Jungmann-RHP-Texas- I'd like to see the Astros draft a high-risk, high-reward guy like Archie Bradley, but that is not going to happen. A hometown college guy seems likely.

12-Brewers- Matt Barnes-RHP-UConn- Brewers are going to draft pitching, period. I see them going with 2 college guys in the 1st round, and Matt Barnes is one of the best around.

13-Mets- BA Vollmuth-SS-Southern Miss- I like this guy as a possible Gordan Beckham type player, and that is what the Mets need, a good middle infield prospect.

14-Angels- Archie Bradley-RHP-HS (Oklahoma)- The Angels love to take guys that will be hard to sign, most notably Jered Weaver and Kaleb Cowart. I think they will take him if he drops to them, and they will sign him. If not Bradley, I can see Dylan Bundy going here.

15-Brewers- Danny Hultzen-LHP-Virginia- With an unprotected pick, they are going to draft a low-ceiling college guy, and Hultzen fits that profile. I think the Brewers will be happy with Matt Barnes and Danny Hultzen.

16-Dodgers- Travis Harrison-OF-HS (CA)- A big power bat, too tempting to pass up for the Dodgers, who have traded away a bunch of good position prospects the last few years.

17-Marlins- Francisco Lindor-SS-HS (CA)- Fransisco Lindor is a possible 5-tool infielder. He could be the guy who moves Hanley Ramirez to the outfield.

18-A's- Jason Esposito-3B-Vandy- I love this guys swing, he generates a lot of power. I think they A's will like that type of guy.

19-Tigers- Dylan Bundy-RHP-HS (Oklahoma)- Most people dont think that Bundy will drop this far, but I just have a feeling he will, but that doesnt mean I doubt his abilities. Tigers love the highschool pitchers, a very nice find for the Tigers.

20-Rockies- Preston Tucker-1B-Florida- Could be the heir apparent to Todd Helton if the Rockies draft him.

21-Blue Jays- Mikie Mahtook-OF-LSU- They Jays drafted a bunch of pitching last year. Going with a college bat could be the route they go this year.

22-Cardinals- Trever Bauer-RHP-UCLA- A nice college arm to go with young sensation Shelby Miller.

23-White Sox- Blake Swihart-C-HS (Ohio)- Tyler Flowers will hold the catching spot for the Sox, but Swihart could be the future catcher of the White Sox.

24-Red Sox- Tyler Beede-RHP-HS (Mass)- A nice HS arm to go with the college guys they got last year.

25-Padres- Alex Meyer-RHP-Kentucky- A good college arm to go with Jackie Bradley, might move quickly.

26-Rangers- Dillon Howard-RHP-HS (Arkansas)- I see the Rangers going highschool pitching with this pick.

27-Braves- Dwight Smith-OF-HS (Georgia)- A hometown guy who would look nice in an outfield with Jason Heyward.

28-Reds- Phil Evans-SS-HS (CA)- The Reds could risk this pick on a high school middle infielder since they have gone college the last couple years. I think this guy could be the equivalent to Christian Colon.

29-Giants- Christian Lopes-SS-HS (CA)- The Giants need middle infielders, and Lopez would be a nice fit for the Giants.

30-Twins- Joshua Tobias-2B-HS (NC)- I think the Twins could use this pick on a HS infielder or pitcher.

31-Yankees- Michael Kelly-RHP-HS (Florida)- A good highschool arm to the Yankees.

32-Rays- Nick Delmonico-C-HS (TN)- The Rays dont have any high end catchin prospects, and Delmonico would be their best one.

33-Phillies- Zach Cone-OF-Georgia- An outfield with Dominic Brown, Shane Victorino and Zach Cone... crazy fast and a nice find at 33.
