How Do You Spend the Off-Season?

With the season winding down, what kind of things do you do to occupy your time during the off-season?  I really don't have an off-season, as soon as the major league campaign ends I start writing the 2011 book. But what do you do to stay entertained during the dark winter months? Do other sports draw your interest?

Different avenues

I am a big basketball, football, and hockey fan so all those various sports keep me entertained. Also, fall TV brings all the great shows back so I get back in to my TV watching which I abandon every summer.

Yeah, I don't really view the off-season as a boring time in the baseball world

If you’re like me, you’re absolutely fascinated by the things that come up during the off-season: non-tenders, arbitration, trades on trades on trades, free agency, prospect lists like John’s, Keith Law’s and BA’s, reports from winter ball, just figuring out how 2011 Opening Day rosters will play out.

That’s part of why I love baseball so much: to me, it’s a 365 days a year kind of thing.

Baseball is my preferred sport. It should be yours, too.

+1 I love following the offseason

Following each team's strategy in the offseason is definitely one of the reasons I'm a baseball fan

Player movement, coaching hires – basically seeing how the other 29 teams try to figure out how to make it all the way to the WS next year.

Bowling...

I bowl…a lot. I do league, sub for a few leagues, and do some tournaments….often bowling anywhere from 2-5 days a week. It was something I used to do a lot when I was younger, then quit for about 7 or so years after I went off to college…started back up a few years ago.

Baseball wise…I keep busy with a couple sim leagues…offseason stuff, trades, free agency, etc.

I spend the offseason

pouring over the Baseball America top ten prospects lists. Then, patiently wait for the top 100 list. After that I somehow, someway make it to opening day.

Once again, it’s gonna be rough

NBA

Big time raptors fan/NBA fan. It’s gonna be an ugly season for Toronto fans but it’s a beautiful game to watch.

Agreed, very excited for the NBA season to begin

Not to mention that NBA 2K11 should be a freaking fantastic game.

my off-season

Baseball-wise, I’ll be doing a lot of catch-up reading . . .there tends to be so many interesting things that come out during the season that I save a lot of it for the off-season. Grading out players, updating rankings lists, and taking note of guys to follow for next year.

Other than baseball, there’s a lot. Being in Austin, college football is kind of a big deal here. Mostly I’m busy with school-related stuff. Next semester, in all likelihood I’m going to begin working on the research for my master’s thesis.

I watch way more tv

but I don’t really ever stop paying attention to baseball. All of my fantasy leagues are very active in the offseason and I find it’s the best time to build a rapport with other owners.

Basketball and football

And of course following every team during the hot stove season.

World Series attitude, champagne bottle life, nothing every changes so tonight is like tomorrow night.

Playing and watching hockey, and watching football.

As with jar75, hockey is my true love (I happen to be a Pens fan, as well).

’Course, I do keep a keen eye on the dealings going on in baseball during the offseason.

Dynasty League

There is not offseason, actually my offseason is more active and important than the actual season.

Lots of stuff ...

U of Washington football and basketball on the top of the list, golf in Arizona, winter league baseball, work in my own business (which I love), opera and symphony, visiting Grandkids, occasional trips to Vegas for poker … LOTS going on. At 73, I can still keep up with it all.

Postseason first

It’s a nice change of pace to watch the playoffs where I don’t care as much about individual performances. (Actually, John – there’s an interesting question – how much do fantasy players continue to follow and root for “their” players during the ML playoffs?) Then I enjoy the football season, both fantasy and “reality”, then the day after the Super Bowl, I fully start salivating until spring training.

The wind is in the buffalo.

Like many others

Fantasy baseball is never truly offseason, and prospect lists make the offseason very intriguing for baseball. I’m also a huge fan of the hot stove, so I’ll be checking on arby lists and free agent lists before the postseason is done.

I get into network TV some, and I enjoy area high school sports. I’ve not had a chance to get into coaching in a situation I felt comfortable in, but my alma mater talked with me about working with athletes in the weight room this winter, so I may do that.

It fits perfectly…from November to March, I’m all hockey, and then baseball comes around again…

Football, soccer, college hoops

Once every four years I watch a bazillion hours of the Winter Olympics.

I’d say hockey but the NHL regular season is really boring. I mostly watch the playoffs, and those don’t start until after baseball has started. Once in a while I’ll catch a Sharks game.
