Rookie Class of 2010-Best prospect for future performance #9

In the end it wasn't all that close as Brian Matusz wins election as the #8 rookie in the class of 2010 for future performance.

totals for the round of voting were:  Brian Matusz 42%, Neftali Feliz 25%, Pedro Alvarez 19%, Jhoulys Chacin 3%, Daniel Hudson 2% (write in), Ike Davis 2% (write in).  None of Mike Leake, Peter Bourjos or Mike Moreland got a vote.

So those elected so far are now:

1. Jason Heyward, outfielder Atlanta Braves

2. Buster Posey, catcher San Francisco Giants

3. Stephen Strasburg, pitcher Washington Nationals

4. Carlos Santana, catcher Cleveland Indians

5. Michael Stanton, outfielder Florida Marlins

6. Madison Bumgarner, pitcher San Francisco Giants

7. Starlin Castro, shortstop Chicago Cubs

8. Brian Matusz, Pitcher Baltimore Orioles

For next round, we drop Leake, Bourjos and Moreland.  We will bring back Wade Davis, Ike Davis and Daniel Hudson, and for the first time try Neil Walker and Ryan Kalish.

temporarily dropped players: Austin Jackson 0% (5), Justin Smoak 1% (6), Jose Tabata 0% (6),  Carlos Carassco 0% (6), Jaime Garcia 2% (7, Jonathon Niese 0% (7), Logan Morrison 0% (7), Danny Valencia 0% (7),  Mike Leake 0% (8), Peter Bourjos 0% (8), Mitch Moreland 0% (8)

From the temporarily dropped list I am intending to add next round, Austin Jackson, Justin Smoak and Jaime Garcia.

Among players not previously on the poll, I'm looking to add Travis Wood and John Axford very soon.  Others  suggested for addition includeJake Arrieta, Chris Tillman, Michael Brantley, Michael Saunders, Josh Thole, Johnny Vennters, Drew Storen, and Andrew Cashner. I'm going to take a closer look at a couple of these before next round,  but if you have any suggestions regarding which to add and in what order Let me know.

As a reminder, vote by adding a +1 response  to the player you are supporting.

Feliz

Although not consistently, I’ve seen him flash some good breaking stuff enough to give me hope that this aspect of his game further develops. Barring major injury (while this could happen he is hardly a maximum effort type) he is either going to be a HOF closer or a very, very good starter.

Well

He would get more support if you’d +1 him, dingleberry….

Yeah, he really seems to have slid under the radar

Outstanding season, especially when you account for his home park; 2.87 FIP away from Coors. Would have been RotY worthy in a normal year, and his stuff and track record backs it up.

It's no slight on him

it’s a strong list.

Yeah it is

But I didn’t expect Alvarez/Feliz to be ahead of him on it.
