Top 150 prospect list
I know it is a fairly slow time in the prospect world as many of us are waiting on the "well-respected" to lay out their top lists by teams & positions.
While we wait, I thought it would be worth some discussion to post this list of top 150 prospects I found here:
http://www.dobberbaseball.com/index.php/component/content/article/26-rankings/2144-top-150-prospects
There are many places where players have exceeded prospect status (Storen, B Wallace, J Bell) & many places I disagree. Too high--Mejia, Carrasco, Scheppers, & Moreland to name a few. Too low--Teheran, Trout, Matt Moore, & Hosmer to name a few.
I think they definitely consider floor higher than other places. A couple years ago, they had Nelson Cruz as a top 10 prospect & I ridiculed them for that but he seems to be doing just fine.
IMO, not a great list, but I am sure we can generate a decent amount of discussion here about where you would place some of these guys. Thoughts?

weird
I would say this list was from last year or something, but then I see Martin Perez low and Tanner Scheppers high, and I’m confused on a number of levels…
not sure I understand their “keeper value” valuation system as a rationale, either…Chris Heisey and Mitch Moreland do not have top 30 keeper value in any universe…
Must be . . .
a METS or RED SOX fan as he seemed VERY excited that those guys were not listed!!! ;)
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
I don't mind that as much as
Z-Mac being our second best prospect and WDR, who was nearly DFAd many times this year being our third.
This list looks like a year old
which explains a lot really.
Just recently updated
Has Bryce Harper & Manny Machado on list.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
I know
But it still seems old. Zach McAllister is listed as a Yankee but was traded during the deadline. The lack of research is apparent.
Top 10 is alright but after that is just bad.
but then Moose at 8 which he wouldnt have been last year...
hosmer at 64….kila at 32….this is worse than any list ive seen posted here

You can't just add the new guys
You have to adjust/remove the old ones too.
"The BB's are out. The BB's are being arseholes to me." - Brian Wilson.
Sounds about right
Your idea sounds about right that they inserted some new names into their original list but never delete or remove others. Still doesn’t explain why they don’t have Wil Myers or Johnathan Singleton or Mesoraco listed.
The one constant through all the years, Ray, has been baseball. It reminds us of all that once was good, and that could be again.
They put Greg Halman 73
they are clearly not up to date on prospects
although Halman clearly moved up as a prospect not down this past year
but I agree that 73 is still a major stretch
The funny thing is that I don't hate the top 10
I dont AGREE with it, but I could see somebody making a perfectly sound argument for that top 10. And it would generate some interesting discussion. But certainly there are places where it seems they didn’t do their homework. Maybe they shouldn’t have made a list this long.

Agreed
That was my purpose for posting this list. I don’t agree with alot of the rankings, but at least is can generate some discussion.

great post
I am glad I have been set straight. Thank you so much!

As an SF fan
I can tell you that Guzman and Runzler don’t belong on this list. A recent list posted at McCovey Chronicles as well as this very site didn’t even have either of these guys in the organizational top 20. And Neal should not be above Wheeler.

I don't think Runzler has prospect/rookie eligibility anymore
Since he was on the ML roster all year

not that it matters much for this
but most reputable prospect rankers ignore the service time component and use the IP/AB to determine prospect status.
Ah
Then Runzler would’ve made my Giants list. He has zero business on a top 150 list though

Understatement really.
I’m not sure we can call this a prospect list. Maybe a random assortment of minor league players in a very random order.
World Series attitude, champagne bottle life, nothing every changes so tonight is like tomorrow night.
Seriously...
worst list I have ever seen! Whoever did this obviously doesn’t follow prospects too much. The fact that Jameson Taillon is not on here, Lamb isn’t a top 100 guy, and
Teheran is behind Carrasco honestly made me wonder why this person bothered with the list at all.
ETHAN MARTIN!!!!
Trout and Hosmer are Top 10 sepcts not 44 and 64

i do
he shouldn’t be top 10 until he plays a season. i fully expect him to BE top 10, but annointing him as the second coming is silly until he proves something.

I'm not sure if Jesus Guzman would crack a Giants top 50 list

Lets just say that this list is proof that just because its on the internet, doesn't make it any more worthy than pulling names out of a hat.

Correct...
But who knows, in 10 years this list could prove to be spot on. I doubt that but any predicition is hard to refute.

yes, yes it does
The thing is, I could have ten of the people that I feel most confident in on this board each post a list of of the top ten things they think is wrong with this list, and I wouldn’t be surprised in the least if on average each of them got at least 6 or 7 things wrong.
just picking out the Cardinals...
And here the Cardinals thought they only had one elite guy in Shelby Miller, guess what Cardinals fans, also got a better prospect in Allen Craig baby!!! We are thinking positive thoughts with DJ Tools like it’s after 2008 again! Zach Cox, pretty much consensus top 10 2010 draft prospect who got 2M can’t crack this list though.
Yeah
Now if that was the other way around I could accept that more than Teheran at 26!
This list has to be old
Wilkin Ramirez is on this list and still with DET.
From a Phillie fans perspective
John Mayberry (112)
Cosart, Colvin, Singleton (all unranked)
That is all
The heck?
From a Pirate’s perspective, Brad Lincoln’s hardly even a prospect anymore. Sanchez should be higher, Taillon has to be on there, and Donald Veal is like, 26, and hasn’t played all year.
Also…Mike Trout at 44? For real?

NO MORE COMMENTS!
Because this list is too illogical and worthless to even discuss.
I get the idea of generating discussion, but there is no discussion here- only people calling out the stupidity reflected by this list.
You can’t have a discussion on a list when everyone agrees that it doesn’t make sense.
