Grade Change Update

Looking at the Twins list, I've decided I want Ben Revere ahead of Oswaldo Arcia on the Twins list. Right now Arcia has a B and Revere a B-, so flipping them requires a grade change for someone, either Arcia moving down to a B- or Revere moving up to a B. Right now I'm thinking Revere should be the one to change, moving up to B.

The rest of the Twins grades I am happy with, although I am still thinking about Angel Morales.

I'd drop Arcia a half grade

If he had a chance to stick in CF, I could go with a straight B, but it looks like the bat will have to carry him.

Raise Revere

Arcia’s bat is too good to drop.

The original ranking is probably better

I really don’t get the Revere love. For a guy with no power, his defense isn’t great. His bat doesn’t play well for the corner OF. Your B- is quite accurate.

He should have been traded after that awesome season in Beloit.

revere

The point for me is, is he better than Arcia?

I know people love Arcia and he killed in the Appy, but his overall tools aren’t great and the strikeout rate concerns me. Both of these guys are borderline B/B- guys for me…but which would I rather have?

Arcia has a crazy good bat

From BP:

To say Arcia is having a good U.S. debut is understating things just a bit, as the 19-year-old Venezuelan is batting a ridiculous .394/.447/.781 in 34 Appy League games. He’s not your typical Latin American outfielder with length, athleticism and projection, he’s more of a stocky type with a short, direct path to the ball and plenty of leverage in his swing. Destined for a corner outfielder spot (he has enough arm for right), he needs to be a hitting machine, and so far, he’s just that.

He was also only 3rd on BA's Appy top 20

Behind Carlos Perez and Enny Romero. He’s a very intriguing prospect, but I don’t believe he deserves the full B just yet.

In fairness

those guys both look great, right? No shame in being third behind two teenage LHPs with plus FBs and starter profiles. It says a lot that he’s third considering the lack of tools in a couple of areas.

Arcia for me

There’s certainly plenty of risk with Arcia, and my excitement over his Appy numbers is tempered by the K/BB deterioration (his numbers there were one of the primary reasons I loved him as a sleeper entering the season). That said, there’s a chance that’s a very special bat; I can’t say the same about Revere. He looks just like another Tyner/Gathright/Taveras/etc., and his terrible arm hinders versatility off the bench. I’d rather go for the homerun on Arcia and live with him being another Mitch Einertson, than settle for a player like Revere who at his best still doesn’t project as more than average and has history stacked against his player type.

I'm not convinced Revere will be anything but Jason Tyner

I really didn’t make that point well. The guy is a CF that doesn’t play good CF defense. He’s not good on the basepaths, and his only talent is supporting a high, but empty batting average. He’d be a plus defender in the corners, but not so much up the middle where his bat isn’t as important. Perhaps he breaks out like Denard Span did a couple years back for MN, but my honest opinion is that they should have sold high on him two years back.

I know this, if I had to choose between Revere and Arcia right now, I’d take Arcia every time. I’m not an expert at seeing talent, but I really don’t see Revere amounting to a whole lot unless everything breaks right for him, the biggest of which being that he develops some gap power and hits 10 home runs in a season.

Can someone explain

What Ben Revere is that Luis Durango isn’t?
