Assume Hurley wasn't eligible under your parameters?

I also prefer Leury Garcia over Edwin Garcia as far as MI’s go.

by Jamey Newberg on Jan 4, 2010 8:21 PM EST reply actions

garcias

Both garcias look pretty weak to me with the bats. Might drop both of them.

Hurley….I dunno.

by John Sickels on Jan 4, 2010 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

No doubt about the bats.

Both stand out with the glove.

Leury has a Furcal package as a defender.

by Jamey Newberg on Jan 5, 2010 12:12 AM EST up reply actions

+1

JD seems really high on Leury too.

I'd

I’d add:

Richard Bleier
Carlos Melo

Drop:

Mike Bianucci

by jf55510 on Jan 4, 2010 8:27 PM EST reply actions

bianucci?

he will make you pay!

actually he could go either way. But i bet he bounces back well

by ab03 on Jan 4, 2010 9:09 PM EST up reply actions

Yeah

I mean really looking at it, does it make a difference? The guys we are talking about are going to be C/C- guys, ranked 25-35. At that point they are all pretty fungible. Though, as with Z, who doesn’t like latin teenage pitchers…

by jf55510 on Jan 4, 2010 9:11 PM EST up reply actions

bleier

Bleier maybe. Melo….numbers in rookie ball don’t justify it, not with the space limits I have.

by John Sickels on Jan 4, 2010 11:01 PM EST up reply actions

I would drop

RHP Evan Reed and add C Vin DiFazio.

Add:

Jacob Brigham
Fabio Castillo
Tanner Roark

Drop:

Chad Tracy
Andrew Doyle
Michael Bianucci

by Adam J. Morris on Jan 4, 2010 8:46 PM EST reply actions

Agreed. And, add Matt Thompson and drop Zach Phillips.

Phillips is a LOOGY that, unlike Snyder, is not yet ready for a big league gig.

Pro baseball has always been a dream, so this is pretty freakin’ cool out here. -- Tim Steggall, undrafted Rangers minor leaguer.

thompson looks interesting

thompson looks interesting. Agreed on phillips, don’t like the way his walks shot up in double-a

by John Sickels on Jan 4, 2010 11:30 PM EST up reply actions

Phillips is not a LOOGY.

He’s better against lefties, as you’d expect but he’s been pretty good against righties – aside from the walks issue he had when he got to AA.

by NoNameOnCard on Jan 5, 2010 2:05 AM EST up reply actions

Looking back at his career

His walk rates jumped each time he was promoted but eventually settled back down to good levels. My guess is when he gets promoted he tries to nibble too much at first which leads to walks and once he gets confident at the level he trusts his stuff more and goes after guys a little more

Brigham etc.

Brigham and Castillo….look marginal to me. Roark looks interesting.

by John Sickels on Jan 4, 2010 11:07 PM EST up reply actions

Brigham's first year back from TJ.

Brigham is a good add. I’d keep Phillips and Tracy.

I don’t think of them will or should make your Top 20, though.

by NoNameOnCard on Jan 5, 2010 1:55 AM EST up reply actions

I know people hate Neil Ramirez.

But I still like him. He has some of the best stuff in the system with two legit plus pitches. I know he has major durability/command/makeup issues, but he is still a potential star someday unlike Beaven, Kiker, Poveda who will all be ranked higher than him.

I'd put DiFazio over Bleier and Reed.

difazio

yeah he looks interesting.

I don’t understand the negative towards reed. great strikeout rate, thogh command needs help.

Bleier….great K/BB but VERY hittable

by John Sickels on Jan 4, 2010 11:47 PM EST up reply actions

I think

the fact that the entire Bakersfield bullpen seemed to pitch out of their collective minds and then fall apart in Frisco has biased everyone against Reed. He really just doesn’t stand out enough in any category to deserve a mention in the top 40 or so, imho.

I'm a little late to this party...

Zach Phillips or Chad Tracy should be there ahead of Reed. Reed is 24 and has spent the past two seasons in High A trying to get some kind of command of his secondary pitches. At last check, I heard he’s still just a fastball guy.

me too.

outside of that, I think his list looks fine.

Count me out on Melo and Tracy, with a firm maybe on Phillips.

rank

I rank a minimum of 20 for each team, everyone who gets a C+ or better. Note that the rankings the further down you go become less meaningful….C+/C guys are hard to rank.

by John Sickels on Jan 5, 2010 1:38 AM EST up reply actions

there's not enough Victor Payano on that list.

Just kidding…I just like to be a first mover.
