Poll: Should this trade be Vetoed??

The following deal has been challenged in a 5x5 Dynasty League (no salaries, keep players forever) that I play in.  Given that many of the players involved are prospects and young MLB talent I thought that this forum would be an objective one to solicit feedback and votes.  There is a clear email chain of correspondance that indicates that no collusion or funny business was involved in said trade.

Team A is a "win now" team.  Team B is a rebuilding team.

Team A  trades;  Jay Bruce, Chris Carter, Phil Hughes and JJ Hardy

Team B trades:   Miguel Cabrera, S. Drew, Zito and Pierre

Note that in this league veteran pitchers of Zito's stature are available on the WW from time to time. (Millwood, Doug Davis are on the WW at present)

Team A got hosed

Because they didn’t enough “rebuilding” pieces back for trading Cabrera and S. Drew. That being said, I’m fairly conservative on vetoing trades so the trade should go through.

Just posing a question out there for the community, for strictly fantasy purposes is Chris Carter a better prospect than Jason Heyward? I think that argument can be made if Carter sticks in the outfield.

um no

and not even close. Heyward >>>> Carter

I see your point...

fishsticks is saying that Carter may be a better fantasy prospect since his bat is his plus and its a big enough plus to ignore the fact that he doesn’t excel in any position defensively, which is not taken into account in fantasy.

Well, Heyward also is going to give you 15-20 steals per season

As well as that big power bat, and high avg. I think he has the best bat in the minors, including Montero’s

This is all you had to say

This statement alone means you do NOT veto the deal. IMO, the only reason to veto is if there is proof of collusion. Otherwise, politics get involved.

+1

I used to play in a league where owners would block trades as part of the game, or sometimes for the hell of it. I quit after one year.

I don’t know that I would trade M-Cab or Drew in a dynasty league unless I was getting more than this, but I would never veto a deal because “I could have made you a better offer.”

I think it depends on the league and what you want to do. I run a 30 team sim league and we have a committee that has the ability to look at trades and veto them if they feel they are too one sided. Even the MLB office has the power to do this, I don’t think it’s wrong for a league worried about the long term health and integrity of the league to set up a system of checks and balances on its members. I’m not suggesting this deal should be vetoed but to say the only reason to veto a deal is collusion seems awfully short sighted to me.

It's not horrible

Miggy was traded yesterday in one of my leagues along with Gavin Floyd and the rights to Eric Young(still in the minors) for Joey Votto, the rights to Jeremy Hellickson, and a 2nd round pick. Must be the time to trade MCab I guess.

Miguel Cabrera, Chris Withrow, and Chris Carter

IMO

You could’ve gotten a hell of a lot more for a 1st rounder, and two top 40 prospects

if you want to keep it realistic no veto… sometimes teams just make stupid trades. i feel the only trades that should be vetoed are those that are obviously one team helping another on purpose

The Trade was not Vetoed

A protest filed. Went to the 3 owner Evaluation Committee who decided NOT to put it to a league vote.

Good decision, thanks for all of the input.
