Around SBN: Ray Allen Fighting Age, Injury And His New Role

Rank in terms of highest upside.

I havent had the oppourtunity to scout any of these guys yet. I have my thoughts but id like to know yours. Im just curious how each of you would rank these guys in terms of highest upside/ceiling. I have picked out three prep catchers (minus Stock) and three prep infielders.

David Renfroe - Boston-ss/3b

Nolan Arenado - Rockies-3b

Billy Hamilton - Reds-ss

Luke Bailey - Rays-catcher

John (JR) Murphy - Yankees-catcher

Robert Stock - Cardinals-catcher

My Opinion

Renfoe – Best Athlete/Skills
Bailey – Could be a McCann type of hitter
Murphy – Less average, more power than Bailey, not as good a receiver (i think)
Hamilton – Probably best athlete, worst skills. Don’t see him being a great hitter.
Stock – Could still be a pitcher. Who knows how he’ll hit as of now.
Arenado – Seems more like an average 3B. I don’t see huge potential here.

I'd go...

Bailey- potential all star catcher who is good at everything
Murphy- good power potential and could stick at catcher
Stock- good offensive skills and really good arm
Hamilton- potential above average SS
Renfroe- Not his biggest fan, but he has a lot of potential
Arenado- Don’t like him too much and I don’t think he has too much potential either.

Stock

On pure ceiling, I would take Stock. Robert Stock was Bryce Harper three years ago. I think he is being severely underrated based on age and college park factors.

He Didn't Hit 300 In College

That shows nothing to me.

He was also a 19 year old Junior

I like him more as a pitcher, but his early pro success is encouraging.
