Nationals:
Strasburg and Norris 1/2 seems to be a no brainer, but after that it seems pretty open. Strasburg and Norris were the only ones on all 13 lists, and Espinosa was on 11.
Mets:
Fmart, Mejia, Davis seem to be the easy 1/2/3. After that there seems to be another 4 guys for those next few spots all clustered.
Braves:
Heyward is easily #1, with Teheran/Freeman both ranked similarly. Delgado is easily #4, with a bunch of guys all fighting for #5.
Phillies: Brown is easily #1, with Taylor/Drabek similarly ranked. I think it’s interesting that Drabek was almost always 2nd, while some people put Taylor 1 and Brown 3. Placement of those two seems to be based on opinions. May and D’Arnaud easily finish off this list.
Marlins: Almost a constant top 4: Stanton, Morrison, Dominguez, James. Several other guys fight for that last spot.

Tomorrow
I think I’ll start the AL West.

I admire cwhitman412’s determination. I had started a project a while ago but it’s just sat empty after part 1. It’s tough to do these projects without something pushing you to continue IMO.

It Doesn't Require Too Much
Basically I’ve been bored as hell at school, so I’ve made my own lists. From there I wanted to share them, so I did this.
I open up an excel spreadsheet, make it similar to the ones above, and as the new lists come up I count.
Hopefully for the next division I can get a bit more participation. Of course with the A’s and Rangers there should be a ton.

I probably would change my Nationals list if
I did it again. Nice job though.
No Allen or Familia in your Mets Top 10 List!
You’re missing if you didn’t include them.

Direct your anger to the community
Not to the poster. These are a collection of the wisdom of the crowd.
Not enough people thought Allen or Familia were good enough to be in the Mets Top 5 (since that’s all that was considered for these lists). For what its worth, did you even bother to vote?

Or Nieuwenhuis
I guess the process was more geared towards producing a top 5, though.

Brad Hand and Kyle Skipworth in the Top 10?
You’ve got to be kidding. Is that how bad the Marlin’s minor league system is?
Billy Chapel: "I can always tell when I'm in New York."
It's not really that bad
It’s always a little hard to grade the Marlins’ system because they tend to go very young with players who take a long time to develop. They have a lot of interesting guys at the lower levels who are slowly putting things together, along with some guys who provide a little safety.
It’s not as deep as it has been in the past (mostly because they’ve been doing a fine job of transitioning guys to the majors and Cameron Maybin is not eligible), but it’s going to produce at least a few pretty solid major leaguers, and that’s about as much as you can ask for out of a system.
Minor over Teheran!
Yes the floor is different on these two as well as the ceiling. But Teheran being #2 is a bit ridiculous. I have apprehensions also about listing Hoover and Milligan in the Braves Top 10. I don’t know who I’d replace them with, but I don’t think they’re Top 10. The Braves are pretty deep in prospects.
Billy Chapel: "I can always tell when I'm in New York."
Yeah Teheran looks like he is being overrated
He has a very small pro track record behind him. In that short period he has proven very hittable and you would hope his K/9 would be higher considering his amazing stuff. The potential is immense but Minor is a much surer thing. I would probably put Delgado above Teheran also at this point.
I would drop Freeman below Delgado and Minor also. He was in a difficult hitting environment at Myrtle Beach and has ARL on his. However, he needs considerable power production to be of any significant value. He is looking like James Loney to me right now, which is not impressive.

so
Loney is ‘not’ a guy you want a hitter to hit like?
by ChalupaCabrera on Sep 21, 2009 5:42 PM EDT via mobile up reply actions
Loney has a WOBA of .330 the past 2 years
For a first baseman, that is not something you want. Loney’s batting line is the definition of an empty average for a 1b. If he did not walk at a decent rate, he would be below replacement in value when considering positional adjustment.

man...
vote or hush up! you rip into every list, and he didn’t even make the lists, he just tallied the community’s votes…
you think this is bad…wait until the community list this winter!!! true democracy at its best, and often you don’t agree with the majority of votes…
Insanity is doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

Here! Here!
There is nothing quite like the community list and although I often severely disagree with it, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Braves
I don’t really think it’s close either. Especially once you go behind the top five.

Agreed
I’d take Strasburg/Norris over Heyward/Freeman if we were just talking top 2(I say that as a Freeman owner), but after that the Braves have the advantage. So many arms in that system that I like. Teheran, Delgado, Minor, Kimbrel, Spruill, Hoover. Probably some I’m overlooking too.
RIP Nick Adenhart
Technically Heyward/Teheran top 2
According to our community list at least. I would take Heyward over every prospect in baseball and would have to take the Braves’ top two over Strasburg and Norris – especially if Norris doesn’t stay at catcher.

You have to understand
This was Derek Norris first full season playing catcher as a pro. Coming out of high school he played 3B. So give him time, he will get alot better.
Be real with yourself.
I agree with this.
But I don’t understand why no one allows this argument to be made with Josh Thole. “He’ll never be a good defensive catcher, probably not even average” is what I seem to hear all the time.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"

Because it's his 5th pro season as a catcher?
Thole was a catcher in HS, drafted as a catcher, and is in his 5th pro season as a catcher. It’s true he played 1B for a stretch to get his bat into the lineup, but he has been training as a catcher all along.
by acerimusdux on Sep 23, 2009 12:44 AM EDT up reply actions
Really?
I thought he played catcher in high school and then this was his first year doing it as a pro. But now I remember, he played it sometimes during his first few years, and this was the first year he played catcher more than first base. But that’s not true, he played 75 games at catcher in 2008 as well. But this is only really his 2nd year working on catcher seriously to play at the major league level, as he only had 26 games there in the three seasons before 2008.
"I dunno. I never smoked any Astroturf"

Yeah
He’s basically been training as a catcher, practicing with the catchers, getting regular side sessions with coaches, all along. He just wasn’t the top guy on the depth charts. Even last season, he pretty much started out behind McCraw, but basically played his way into the starting position in St. Lucie when McCraw struggled.
So he was kind of raw and has gotten a lot more work and made progress over the last year. I think he can be a decent defender and should stay there, I just don’t think it will ever be a plus.
All good systems.
I’d rank them all in the top half of the league.

?
Where would you guys rank the Nats farm system if they draft Bryce Harper #1 overall next year?
Be real with yourself.
Or
He wins the NL Cy Young next year which is just as likely.
I reject your reality and substitute my own.

overall or in NL East?
I’d say a top-7 overall system and and top-2 NL East system. Braves will be weaker without heyward but the phillies should still rank above them
