What do you guys think of Ezequiel Infante?
Name: Ezequiel Infante
Age: 21 (08/31/1988)
Measurables: 5' 10", 180 (Left Handed)
Looking at the numbers: Has been a shutdown relief prospect since 2006, but the Reds appear to be trying to convert him into a starter. Has been truly dominant in the past as a reliever, having a 0.19 ERA last year in 47 IP. From what I have seen he has power stuff, and should be quite good as a starter. He started his first game today for Dayton (low A):
6 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 7 SO
This guy appears to have a HUGE ceiling, whether as a reliever or a starter.....Why haven't I heard about him?

A young lefty with power stuff, who has proven in the past that he can be dominant.....
Whats not to like?
He's a 21-year old at low-A, with most of his dominance coming as a 20-year old reliever in the DSL, and no prior ink to his name.
I don’t see it.

The average pitching age in the MWL is 21.8....
So he’s ahead of the average curve by 8 months….He also pitched well in the Pioneer league before being called up. There is plenty of reason to beleive he will be a solid prospect going forward.
Considering his birthday is this month,
he is behind the curve. And half the roster is young prospects, while the other half is usually older guys who aren’t considered to have much of a future.
What the heck are you talking about....
He turned 21 LAST month (it is August now, you know?), so he is IN FRONT OF THE CURVE by 8 months, or 7 months and a bunch of days if you prefer. The other stuff you said has no bearing about him as a prospect so I am not sure why you typed it.
what he is saying is that
the average age thing is irrelevant, because half of the MWL is young (younger than Infante) prospects, and the other half are old roster filler and minor league journeymen. this skews the average age thing towards the older side.
Adoptive parent of Kyle Nicholson
Actually we are both wrong about his age
He hasn’t yet turned 21 (August is the 8th month, you know?), so the information above is incorrect. But he is ahead of the curve, which is skewed (my point) as gore explained.
Ah I am seeing it....
I still think he is a very intriguing prospect, especially if he continues to pitch like he did tonight.
I have a dream...
where someday all people will realize that age is not nearly the concern for a pitching prospect that it is for a hitter.
I know, sadly, that this dream will never come true.
Yup
Sometimes its better to be older, even. Injury nexus, mileage on their arm, etc… Not to mention the spirit of TINSTAAPP.
Still, for guys who need to work on secondary stuff its an issue… and projectability wise its an issue for a younger guy scouts see filling out and gaining a couple ticks on his fastball. Not nearly as big a deal as with hitters, though.
One possible reason
is his size. Scouts arent fond of 5’10, 180 lb kids. Especially b/c if theyre listed at that, theyre probably actually a little smaller.
