Matt Dominguez and Jeff Allison promoted to AA Jax
The Marlins promoted third base prospect Matt Dominguez from High-A Jupiter to Double-A Jacksonville. The 19 year old was hitting .262/.333/.420 in 381 at bats for the Hammerheads.
Pre All Star splits: .250/.301/.373 in 236ab
Post: 283/.382/.497 in 145ab
The other promotion was for 24 year old RHP Jeff Allison. Everyone knows the story on Allison(nearly died due to overdosing on oxycontin). In 20 starts in Jupiter, he went 4-8 with a 3.87era in 109.1ip with 56k and 25bb. He also gave up 119 hits.

Wow, Allison is only 24?
He still has a chance to have a major league career.

Not with that strikeout rate he doesn't
Though in principle, yes.

Allison
was sent back to High A Jupiter after the game
kinda weird… especially with a SP slot open with the trade of Aaron Thompson last week

…Allison hasn’t exactly lit things up. A 4.5 K/9 is near Moskosian (though I’m a bit of Moskos homer, and possibly the only one on the internet that can say so)
As for a prospect I do know a bit about, I will be the first to say that I think it was a mistake to promote Dominguez this soon. While he has had a strong second half, and his glove is major league caliber now, the bat simply isn’t there yet.
If the Marlins want more than league average production (the glove is really that good) then they’ll give him the rest of this season and most of next season at AA before bumping him to AAA/MLB. Even then, he’ll be 21/22.

Right
I think that’s the plan. He’ll be up here for 20 games, probably go to the AFL and then spend most if not all of 2010 in AA. The Marlins usually accelerate their top prospects for a taste of higher levels in back of a successful season. I don’t see anything extraordinary here.

afl
I’m not sure this is still the case . . .but I believe the AFL only allows each MLB team to send one player from below AA. If the Marlins plan on sending somebody else from A ball (they have a lot of toolsheds in their lower minors who might benefit from the extra work), they needed to promote somebody. And if they were going to promote Dominguez, then they might as well promote him now and at least give him an extended look to give him a head start on next year.
