ETA on Carlos Santana?

I know that he probably wont be a factor until 2010 at the earliest but do you think he gets a cup of coffee this year?  Shoppach and Marson will have first dibs obviously but I dont really see either standing in Santanas way, do you?

Also curious about Eric Young JR, Desmond Jennings and Logan Morrison.  Do you think they have a chance of being called up this year...is Brian Matusz the last top ten prospect we'll see in 2009?

Santana and EY2

should both play quite a bit in September, I would think. I could see the Indians and Rockies running out those two in their opening day 2010 lineups, and you know there’d be some feet wetting before that happened.

I don’t see Jennings or Morrison starting 2010 in the bigs, so they could go either way. Both of their teams are in playoff races though (as are the Rockies—I forgot) so that’s something to consider.

Eric Young Jr is an almost definite September callup

If his glove has improved enough, (that’s the real question with him) one could argue he should be the Rockies utility man right now over Omar Quintanilla, and that he could be the 2010 starter for 2nd base in the Rockies. Several teams seemed to think he’s a legit prospect (remember the Young for Freddy Sanchez talks?), and the Rockies deemed him untouchable for now. Given the way he’s played at Triple A this year, and his performance at the Futures Game, he really looks to be the real deal, and the Rockies should and most likely will give him every shot at 2nd in the near future.

The only one I can definitively speak on is Desmond Jennings

and he will absolutely under no circumstance be called up this season. He’s the Rays best or at worst 2nd best prospect, but in terms of big league OF depth chart, he’s probably 4th of 5th in line for a call-up in the event of injuries. He’s also not on the 40 man and doesn’t have to be and the Rays aren’t putting him on it this season.

Who's on the 40-man?

That’s a pretty important thing to consider when speculating on call-ups.

Percentages

EY – 100 percent gets a call
Santana – less than 20 percent he gets a call
Jennings – Less than 20 percent he gets a call
Morrison – Less than 20 percent he gets a call

Others that are coming up: Bret Wallace – 100 percent

Will Jayson Heyward get a call up?

What about Pedro Alvarez? Brett Wallace?

Heyward...

There is no way Heyward gets called up, I doubt Alvarez gets any MLB time, but Wallace is almost certain to be called up.
