Top Prospects in New York/Penn League

Who do you guys see as the top prospects in the league.  I know Westmoreland is likely the best prospect but who else do you see as top guys or even sleepers.  Right now my top 5 prospects in the league would be 1) Westmoreland 2) Vizcanio 3) Hood 4) Valle 5) Colome.  There are some nice prospects in the league and do any of you guys know more about John Murrian as he's leading the league in hitting as a catcher and not too old for the league just turning 21 in mid june.

Jorge Bucardo and Tyler Cline are two more to conisder.

Both have preformed well, are very young, and have quality stuff.

Michael Almanzar was highly touted coming into this season

and has phenomenal tools… but right now he SUCKS.

Indeed

What has happened to him? Pushed too far too fast and developed confidence issues or messed up his swing mechanics?

by Ophidian on Aug 5, 2009 4:37 PM EDT up reply actions   0 recs

little of both

He’s still very young. He was just so phenomenal last year they decided to challenge him… it didnt work out well, as he clearly wasnt ready for Greenville.

Tools are all still there and he’s actually been doing better recently.

off the top of my head ...

didn’t look through rosters for every team. but here are a few you should probably pay attention to:

-arodys vizcaino, SP, staten island……one of my favorites on this entire list. in the offseason someone in the yankees’ front office threw a pedro comp at him. or maybe he compared himself to pedro i can’t recall. 17 or 18- year-old is having an easy time of it. get him now while he’s still under the radar
—ryan westemoreland: boston OF who should’ve been taken a lot higher but dropped b/c of money….notice the absurb poster on this site who compared him to sizemore
—alexander colome, sp, hudson valley: jesus’ brother is dominating hitters as a 20-year-old. also putting up huge K totals
—anthony hewitt, OF, lakewood: comes highly regarded but has done nothing yet to merit being a first-rounder
—michael almanzar: another boston guy ..he’s struggling but he’s very young and comes highly regarded
—derrik gibson, boston, of: raw tools guy
—jake mcgeary
—destin hood
—j.p. ramirez

The Pedro comp

I think it came from Viz himself, saying what kind of pitcher he thought he could be.

Umm...

That was last year. Havens is in St. Lucie.

That's tragic

To be fair

Chase Utley lite is an interesting way to describe his skillset. Not his talent level, necessarily, but his specific concentration of abilities.

McEachern has great stuff

Go look at my Youtube videos of him. His curveball is on a Tillman level.

Is McEachern wearing red?

Because the P-Rays colors don’t have red in them.

Zoilo Almonte

Just turned 20. Has a 9 game hitting streak, .389 over that span. Appears to have power and speed. Any thoughts?
