Jeremy Hellickson continues to deal

8 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 12 K's tonight for Durham against Gwinnett. Three straight double digit strikeout performances now.

Overall, his numbers at AAA are as follows: 50.1 IP, 28 H, 15 BB, 61 K, 2.86 ERA.

107.1 IP, 69 H, 29 BB, 123 K overall between AA and AAA this year. He might not have ace upside, but this guy is a really good pitching prospect. Thoroughly impressed with his performance thus far in Durham, I thought he'd have some struggles in AAA.

Easily a top 10 pitching prospect in the minors

Easily. Maybe top 5.

yep

i was the only one to even mention him in a mid-season / early august list. and i under-rated him too.

Love this kid for awhile now

I had him at #39 on my list I sent to siddfynch in the offseason, never understood why more people didn’t like this guy.

RIP Nick Adenhart

Homers

He gave up a bunch in AA last year. I think that spooked some people, although his go/ao suggest that might be slightly flukey. Nolasco may be a good comp.

I'm relenting with every start.

You did say he was dominating a bit before he was. NOW he is dominating.

That's only 'cause I was too lazy to do one :p

His Swinging Strike's might be the most impressive part about him

he had 16 in about 106 pitches (don’t remember exactly) which is 15% and that is actually lower than his last couple starts. He is absolutely dominating and I think should be considered one of the top 3-5 pitching prospects in all of baseball next year.

how is that impressive in the minors?

i dont think swinging strike percentage in the minors matters… cause people down in the minors dont know how to hit quality pitches..

The two knocks on Hellboy have been his size and his stuff

I call bullshit on both accounts.

He has a strong lower half; fuck his size.

His stuff is good BTW — 91-93 mph fastball hitting 95, at times a plus curveball, and a fine changeup

There’s nothing lacking with Hellickson.

He’s an easy top 25 prospect in baseball — maybe even better.

out of curiousity where do you have Desmond Jennings?

wondering b/c over at DRB I’m viewed as insane for having Hellickson ranked just a bit higher than DJ, just wondering if their is someone else in the world with that thought or if I’m all alone.

I'd rank him higher

Fewer injury issues.

Clarify?

Hellickson and Jennings have both had injuries, though Hellickson’s missed much less time

I have Jennings at 11

Also, I’m including 2009 draftees (I have Strasburg and Ackley) ahead of DJ and JH.

So, IMO, they’re basically equivalent prospects.

FWIW, I’m confident in Jennings, more so than most prospects, that he hasn’t even come close to his power ceiling.

I can def see The Black Panther settling in with 20+ home runs year in and year out.

hmm

I guess I better get on the DJ bandwagon before it gets too late if everyone but me loves him. I’d have him as a top 30 guy but sure if he is a top 20 guy I won’t complain.

He's answered every question

Im still not sold on his ceiling – its an open question IMHO, but kid sure looks like he’s going to be at least an around average MLB pitcher and the kind that attacks the strike zone and is fun to watch.

His floor is basically a #3 starter

which is ridiculous. (Well, his arm could fall off. But any pitcher’s arm could fall off, except for Dan Haren’s. The concept of floor would have no meaning for pitchers if you include catastrophic injuries.)

Like, he’s not going to be any worse than Joe Blanton even if he never develops any further at all. And Joe Blanton is pretty valuable. If he takes a step forward… well, he could be the next Haren himself.

1/2/3 punch with David/Price...

and laughable to consider he’ll drop in the 4/5 slot with Garza still learning and improving, no?

wish he’d get a callup now, or at least a spot-start before playoffs come to build for next season.
