Around SBN: Raiders' GM Begins The Purge

Tillman's second start

Watching his first inning he just looks really uncomfortable.  I think once he settles in he should be ok because the stuff is clearly there but he's left a lot of breaking balls up in the zone and they were hammered.  To start the game Granderson Tripled, Polanco doubled, walk to Clete Thomas, wild pitch to advance runners then Miggy Cabs doubled both them home.  He then settled down to get the next three but he left one up in the zone to Thames that he just hit a laser to left right at Reimold.  Interested to see how he bounces back.

I saw

A couple good changeups. A couple really nice looking curves. But like many young pitchers he leaves his fastball way to high in the zone. Sucks as an O’s fan to see them give him a 5-0 1st inning league and he gives it back fairly quickly.

Of course it’s early, it’s good that one can see why scouts/prospect rankers/people in baseball love him and talent. Another poor outing but it’s easy to keep things in perspective for such a young and talented pitcher.

also

i noticed he was constantly working behind in the count, going 1-0, 2-0 to hitters…your not going to succeed often doing that…but he def. showed some promise

Agreed

I have to agree with you on this. In fact, the stuff looked good, he was just behind on seemingly every hitter and it caught up to him. I watched both his and Latos start yesterday, and I think that was the main thing that stood out to me between the two. Latos was ahead on just about every single hitter.
