Chris Davis replaces Blalock
Texas is still in the hunt...will this move help them to surpass the Red Sox for the wild card?
It sounds as if Chris Davis will take over at first base for the majority of the remaining games. Hank Blalock just wasn't getting it done and has been relegated to a bench player for the stretch run.
Since being demoted to AAA, Davis hit quite well and changed his batting stance in order to see the ball better.
Can we expect anything better than what we saw before his demotion? The team is playing well and it would be nice to see him contribute down the stretch.

Can’t be worse than before… and I would expect him to be ok now… but now we have a kid in his sophmore campaign who was struggling mightily in the majors this year, went down and then changed his batting stance. I think projecting him to be an impact player is a little optimistic. Probably better than Blalock has been recently, though.
I would be shocked if he was as bad as he was earlier this season
Because:
A) He was AWFUL earlier this year. In one game back, he’s basically already been more valuable than he was all season.
B) He displayed far and away the best BB/K rate of his career during his AAA stint. I was pretty surprised when I saw his minor league line, as it was such a stark contrast to the ick he was showing in Texas earlier this year.
Then again, I’ve been told that players can’t improve their BB/K, so he’s probably doomed.
Can't improve their K/BB?
Apparently Chris Carter didn’t get the memo.

Well, not really
I was just being smarmy, as his BB/K was a major point of contention in previous discussions.

TBD
TBD baby, TBD lol. It’s kind of a running joke where someone called Carter “the black Rob Deer”- which I might add is a horrible comparison- but anyways, Player To Be Named Later suggested we just shorten the nickname to “The Black Deer”, and some of us have ran with it since. I just abbreviate and use TBD, Carter has earned that right to absorb all cool nicknames and associated abbreviations. Plus, the nickname is better than for example: Jo-Tab, B-But, E-Long, or any name in this format.

yea, that BB/K ratio in AAA is the thing that really stood out to me
it was definitely something he worked conciously on improving and it seems like he may have tailored his game some to improve that. He may not be as powerful as he was coming up, but he needs to make these changes to be an effective big leaguer. Plus, considering he’s still 23, there is alot left to be written in his development.
