Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

Adam Milligan

21 year old OF in Rome hitting .360/.404/.634/.1.039 with 10 homers and 11 2B in 44 games. Even more impressive is that its his debut season and he missed an entire year due to injury. He was drafted by the Braves 3 different times, obviously they are very high on him. Comes out of a great Walters State CC program. I think this is a guy to watch next year where he might shoot up everyone's radar. He is flying below it being a 21 year old in low A ball who started the year out in Danville.

Nice numbers,

but it’s only 44 games, his BB rate sucks, and he’s riding a .390 BABIP. Like you said, let’s watch out for next year and see how he does.

Not simply nice numbers

He’s far from a sure thing, but take a step back to see his profile:

Terrific athlete, with pretty strong set of tools as well. A guy who was equally a footballer as much as a baseball player, who is also coming back from injury.

So, it’s not like we’re talking about a polished guy with limited tools or upside putting up strong numbers; his numbers are more intriguing because of the rest of his profile.

According to KG: “A former football star, Milligan is a 6-foot-3, 220 pound pure athlete with plus-plus raw power and at least average speed, although he’s still a bit raw when it comes to a hitting approach and baseball instincts. Still, his pure ceiling is almost as big as his stat line.”

Nice to see

It is always a nice thing to see when tools and stats align. It’ll be nice to see how he progresses at the next level.

I just got on twitter.Follow me at http://twitter.com/JDSussman
I'll be trying to post lines and analysis as much as possible.

Ok

it’s good that he’s such a great athlete, I wasn’t aware of that, and the power is very nice, but I’d like to see better plate discipline. I just want to wait and see how he does against better competition. I’m definitely keeping an eye on him though.

I'll be checking him out this weekend

Looking forward to it….

I plan on writing him up in the near future with pics/vids.

You should definitely

post more scouting reports on this site — I bet you could get your own SBNation blog or a special scouting job with John if you play your cards right…

Also it’s fun to read good scouting reports.

maybe...

i keep hearing that the Organization may want to see what he does with better pitching and a tougher ballpark. They MAY move him to Myrtle Beach (where hitters go to die (except Heyward and Freeman)) to see what happens.

I can’t really think of too many hitters who have succeed at Rome only to fall apart at Myrtle Beach. If anything a lot of guys have hit even better there than they did in Rome. Milligan will hit the Carolina League. The real test is AA Mississippi. And all three of Rome, Myrtle Beach and Mississippi are pretty big parks.

Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur

A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.

Myrtle Beach

The moved in part of the fence a bit ago. It’s not real the same offensive death knell it used to be.
