where's betances?
I have scoured the internet looking information about whats going on with, but the few sites I have found say "undisclosed injury." The guy hasnt pitched since jun 24. How can he be out for nearly two months and nobody knows anything? Surely theres some yankee fans that know whats up with him. I'd appreciate any input some insiders may have reagrding whats going on with him. I have him in my minors and I hope he's not seriously injured

Elbow injury

The fact that he has missed 2+ months, and that the Yankees org has been tight-lipped, it leads me to believe it might be serious. By the way, this isn’t the first time he has had an elbow issue. The kid is freakishly big and has a hard time repeating his mechanics.
Hope that helps dude.
Paul Thomas and RedSoxFaithful are in my Wolfpack.

He was pretty awful even before the injury.
Always drastically overrated.

Uh...
Zach McAllister is one of my favorite prospects in the game. Rethink that, please.

why would i think that?
was i supposed to majically know you are a fan of mcallister? i’’l rethink it when you tell me what betances has ever done to be “overrated”. its not like anybody’s ever put him in the top 25 on their prospect rankings. you would be in a very, very small minority if you dont think he has immense “potential” , health permitting

agreed
Betances does indeed have a HUGE ceiling. Excellent mid 90s fastball with a big hammer curveball. Both are plus pitches. If he can remain healthy, repeat his delivery, and reduce the walks, he will take major steps forward. A lot of ‘IFs’, but there is undoubtedly a lot of potential in Betances. McAllister would be the safer bet to realize his potential (mid-back end starter), whereas Betances is far more riskier, but has frontline starter potential.
Dewey Finn = Dylan McKay, King Billy Royal = Zack Morris, RedSoxFaithful = Millhouse Van Houten, Paul Thomas = Steve Urkel, Galt = Screech Powers, Bravesin07 = Richard Stabone, Hero66 = Beavis, Slurve = Phoebe Buffay

agree
a lot of risk with betances. i havent seen many lists with betances even in the top 75, so i really dont know where the other guy gets thay hes overrated

No, you're not supposed to "majically" [sic] know that.
But if you’re going to make an accusation that I’m biased, the least you could do is see if I have opinions on other Yankee prospects. Betances has always showed God-awful control, and have always thought lowly of his skillset. Potential is great, but he is so far away from reaching it that it’s barely even worth talking about.

first of all
that was a typo. i was driving down the road when i typed that. second, maybe if you had actually presented an argument as to why he was overrated rather than simply saying he’s overrated while referring to a yankees prospect and your sn is redsoxfaithful, then i would not have drawn the conclusuon that i had. if you have a problem with people drawing those conclusions(which you seem to have taken personally for some reason), then perhaps you should either change your sn or offer up an actual argument up front, although i dont know why you offered your opinion to begin with- i didnt ask for it. but i guess since you effectively turned this post into a discussion over the quality of betances, id still like you to explain how he is “overrated.” most people dont even rank him in the top 75 despite his high ceiling. how can a guy not being as high as guys with much lower ceilings than him(and not even in the top 75 no less) be “overrated?”

Because he shouldn't come close to touching a Top 100
He’s an injury prone, no-control pitcher with fly ball tendencies and poor mechanics. He’s all projection at this point, and I don’t think I would bet on him at any odds. If he wasn’t a big market prospect, we wouldn’t even be having this discussion.

look at Betances as of September 2008
He was a 20 year old in low A (IE, age appropriate) with good raw talent that made a mechanical adjustment at midseason, and consequently saw his BB rate drop drastically while maintaining an excellent strikeout rate. It was a short sample, yes, but based on the last 2 months of 2008 it certainly was a reasonable view that he had “turned a corner” and was an excellent breakout candidate for this year.
I agree that his performance and injuries this year have pushed him pretty far back on the prospect radar, but it wasn’t unreasonable to consider him a back-end top 100 prospect coming into the season. And even in his “disastrous” 2009 he had a K per inning and a FIP under 4, all while dealing with an injury. That’s a hellofa lot better than Brackman has done so far in his career.
