Storen to AA

The Nationals have promoted 2009 first rounder Drew Storen to Double-A following short-but-impressive stints in Low A and High A. The quick move up the ranks makes you wonder just how quickly he'll get to the majors. So what do you say  - can he make it to majors this year?

Overall, he has pitched 24.2 innings, allowing eight earned runs on 18 hits and 2 walks. He has struck out 37.

Can't see why they would waste a 40-man roster spot on him this season

but, well, it’s the Nationals, so I suppose any idiocy is possible.

Yeah burning an option and a 40 man spot doesn't make much sense.

Plus, doing anything that would hurt their chances in the Bryce Harper sweepstakes doesn’t make much sense either.

Perhaps the Yuniesky Betancourt trade actually WILL work out for the Royals

I will tell you what. I wouldn’t want to deal with Scott Boras two years in a row. After Strasburg I would need a year off from Boras. The second or third pick doesn’t sound so bad at this point.

Be real with yourself.

bryce

is going to have so much more leverage than stras. but how are you going to pass that up?

Storen should be called up in Sept

then try him out in the set up or closer role the next year. He looks extremely polished and talented, and is really good for a signability pick. Makes you wonder if the Nat’s GM/scouts actually do know what they are doing. Tough luck on Zimmerman BTW.

why

What’s the point of rushing him up? It’s not like 2-3 innings in the bigs late in the year will really make that big a difference in the developmental curve. He’s already had a full season … I just don’t see the point to bringing him up. To be honest, I’d start him in the minors to start 2010 and wait until May or June to bring him up. It’s going to be another rebuilding year anyways … no need to force anything unless the kid deserves it. That said, I think he’s got a solid shot to break camp.

Personally, I still wish the Nats would take a peek at him as a starter.
