WASHINGTON -- Washington Nationals acting general manager Mike Rizzo says rookie right-hander Jordan Zimmermann probably needs reconstructive elbow surgery.
Rizzo says Monday that Dr. James Andrews reviewed an MRI exam done on Zimmermann's right elbow and agreed with a Nationals team doctor that the pitcher should have an operation to repair a ligament.
terrible news for him and the nationals.

Wow
One of the few good things they had going for them this season.

awful
human beings, who are almost unique in their ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

he will never be the same
He has that strange twirl in his motion that will always make him an injury risk. I noticed when I saw him in syracuse, he had a violent motion. Remember if he loses velocity he is a number #5 not a #2.

Upsetting
From a strictly selfish perspective, it’s very frustrating to lose out on the opportunity to witness a pitcher with Zimm’s skills develop into the player he would have become.
Much worse, I feel terrible for a kid to have to experience this…especially one like Zimm who by all reports has excellent makeup and seems like he works hard to hone his craft.

i get the feeling...
that he blew his elbow out on the rehab assignment. I think when he originally felt elbow soreness, they should have shut him down for the rest of the year. I don’t know what they gained by trying to have him come back this year, stupid.

Heard this on the radio this morning
I am in the Baltimore.DC area, so we get sports form both, and I felt terrible when I heard this. Such a promising kid derailed, though hopefully he can get back from it.

Jeez, it's only Tommy John, not a brain tumor
Odds are pretty good that he’ll eventually be fine.
