Around SBN: Explaining Jeremy Lin's Early, Surprising Success

Desmond Jennings placed on DLs

And by DLs, I mean Durham bulLs. Is he over his injury past? The Rays could have another Carl Crawford on their hands and this time one with strike zone judgment. Crawford is hit or miss and this year he us hit. I think Jennings could be hit, big hit even, every year. That's a very scary thought for any AL East fans out there. What's his power projection? I'm thinking 20HRs, 850 OPS, maybe .900?

His strike zone judgement. He has a 48/52 BB/K ratio, which for a leadoff hitter would be very good. I’m not sure if he will ever hit 20 HR, maybe in his prime, but I could see 15 consistently. He also has 37 SB with only 5 CS, meaning he knows how to pick his spots. That’s an 88% SB% which is very good also.

re

Im as big a Jennings booster as any, but I say 20HR annually is high. I could see a spike here and there of 20 bombs, but more consistently in the 12-15 HR range.

I always see the Crawford comp, but I like a Curtis Granderson comp better, especially based off numbers in the minors. Granderson today hits for more power than Jennings will, but then again, no one expected Granderson to be a 20-30 HR annually guy either.

One thing is for sure: Crawford – Jennings – Upton is the most athletic OF in the game easily, and just based off pure athleticism, may be the most athletic of all time in any era.

Based on what you guys are saying

Sounds like he is more like a Victorino, hmm, I must be too high on his power. I’m thinking Matt Kemp with strike zone judgment. Better lower my expectations? LOL

jennings is way more projectable than victorino.

taller and better body.

its funny that he’s on the Rays, because he looks like a BOSSMAN/Crawford hybrid. [well, BOSSMAN with a busted shoulder]…

i could see him doing .300/.375/.450 with an easy 30-40 SBs. 15-20 HRs with possibly 25-30 in his power prime [27-30]

Upton-Crawford-Jennings-Perez

That sounds like a hell of a 4 man relay team.
