Interesting pitching matchup in Tennessee
Hellickson vs. Mateo – Mateo isn’t on the same level, but he has quality stuff, but not the consistency. That said, he’s shown some signs the last few times out, stringing together a string of good starts, starting with one against Montgomery on the road.
AA Bing and Portland too
Holt V Tawiza (sic) love the new mobile posting. I think I missed out on him in my top 50

Nice rebound for Holt
5 IP, 3 R, 3 H, 1 BB, 10 K. He had struggled in his first 2 outings since coming off the DL.
Tazawa went 5 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 BB, 2 K. Ike Davis also hit his 3rd AA HR in the game.
Rondon is off to a blistering start
4 IP, 0 H, 1 BB, 8 K so far in his AAA debut
Rondon's final line
6 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 8 K, was pulled after throwing 95 pitches.
Tillman
So, can somebody explain to me why he isn’t in the majors yet? Somebody like Rick Porcello gets called up straight from A+ ball. Tillman arguably does better in a full season in AA, and the Orioles bring him up to AAA. Okay. The one issue with his game, everybody agreed, was that his control was only marginal. This year, his K rate goes up while he improves his control until it is good. He has an FIP of 2.25 in AAA. But nobody seems to be talking about when he’ll be called up. Am I missing something?
BTW, so far today, 6 IP, 6 Ks, 0 BBs, 0 ERs

Service clock
I doubt they even bring him up in September. He doesn’t need to build a relationship with Weiters, and they can keep his IP down too.
Will the O’s rotation have Tillman Matzsu and Arreita next season out of ST? I’d say there is a strong possibily that won’t happen either, for clock reasons. But come may, this could be an exciting team.

My guess
Tillman will be called up soon, per my reply below.
Arrieta will get the call in September when rosters expand, but won’t get more than a start or two to limit his innings.
Matusz will be shut down for the year in mid-August when he reaches ~140 innings. He’ll be given the Wieters treatment next year and spend his first few weeks at AAA.
All three should be in the rotation by next May, barring injury or ineffectiveness.
There’s a chance that the Orioles play it very conservative with Arrieta and Tillman for 40-man roster reasons since neither needs to be added until next year. However, there is plenty of fat on the 40-man that they can cut, so they can add both of those two (and Snyder and Erbe) without risking any talent in the rule 5.
I'd put money
on Patton getting the call if they need a pitcher before Sept. too. He may be a call up when the rosters expand but I don’t think we’ll see him before then
Tillman will be up soon
The front office is dropping all kinds of hints to the beat writers, leading to articles like this one:

Given the struggles of Hill and Berken and a potentially injured Guthrie and Uehara’s extended injury, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Tillman make his debut shortly after the break.
Desmond Jennings
3-5, 3B, HR (7), 2 SB (32)
hopefully this signals the end of his month-long slump
BA
BA is releasing their top 25 tom.
Should be interesting.

My personal favorite part of it
When BA releases their midseason top 25, it ALWAYS ends up doing hilarious things with regard to groupthink . . .there are always at least 3-5 names on the list that tend to surprise, with an equal number that surprise with their omission.
Oh, and without looking, I'll throw out my top shocking predictions.
1. Kyle Drabek rates much more highly than you might initially think he would.
2. The Cubs have two top 25 prospects in Josh Vitters . . .and Starlin Castro.
And were out-done in the NL Central by the Astros
who put 3 people on the list; Jordan Lyles, Jason Castro, and…Drew Sutton
(P.S. Drew Sutton’s real name is Stephen Drew Sutton. No joke.)
