Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

The continuing Saga of Kris Davis

I, like many people on this board, were VERY high on Kris Davis coming into the year. Although his K numbers were high, the mighty bat and long track record of decent or better averages made me think he'd be able to put up big numbers this year.

Instead, he's hitting right around .200 with a a record-setting-pace of K's. Granted he is showing power but when you're hitting .200, that just won't cut it.

The Rangers finally had enough and demoted the Human Fan to AAA last night to make room for Josh Hamilton.

Supposedly they just want him to go down and work on "things" and then they will call him right back up.

What does the community think? Is he going to end up a perpetual bust? Or is he going to revamp his swing and return better than ever, terrorizing balls and exciting the hearts of many fantasy owners?

I think he is trying to make a play on Chris Davis by spelling his name with

a K instead of ‘ch’. Perhaps it would be funnier if it hadnt been done a million times already and if he actually spelled continuing (no ‘e’) correctly. So upon reading this instead of thinking this was a clever play i just immediately believed the author to be unintelligent.

No way, dude

Spelling it with a K is incredibly Klever, and I’m sure no one else thought of it, this it the very first time.

Can't get down with it

I’m still too distracted by the brilliance of people who say Failcoeur.

I would think Flailcoeur would be more clever...

wow

such snarkieness and cynicism. lighten up folks, just having a little fun and trying to start a discussion. I didn’t claim to be making an original spelling change nor am I claiming to be some brilliant and clever person. Relax and post your thoughts on Kris DAAAvis.

Who knows?

He might end up being nothing much in the long run . . .but the guy has been pushed so hard, so fast that it’s really difficult to say just what the future holds for him. IF the Rangers had been more conservative with him and he was spending this season at AA/AAA, we wouldn’t be having this discussion.

Just another entry in the “stop saying they’re ready when they’re really not” column. AA players are very, very rarely ready to contribute upon promotion to the majors. Even players who successfully transition from AAA to the majors often do so only after a full season or two of scuffling in the majors.

Davis

Every player is different. Some can handle a big jump from AA, others can’t. Sometimes we judge prospects way to quickly, this was the beginning of his first full MLB season. If one doesn’t think he, or any prospect in that situation has adjustments to make, you are going see overreactions. This is common place for prospects.

It is about time

He probably should have been sent down awhile ago. He desperately needs to go down and work on fixing his swing problems, be they mechanical, physical, or mental. The potential is still there, as evidence by the power totals and his previous minor league success.

AAA. Now.

Try Salty at 1B (even if his long term future is as a catcher, get him ABs), and get Teagarden some much needed PAs.

Salty is not a 1B.

He has been very good defensively behind the plate this year. Better than Teagarden.

I think he goes down, changes his approach a little, regains his confidence and settles in at .250-.265/.310-.330/.450-.500. I still like the original Mike Jacobs comp… but a little better perhaps. A couple real nice career years and a bunch of stretches where he gets hot (like last year’s debut) and makes you think he’ll end up something more than he is… but ultimately his proclivity to K and lack of selectivity will prevent him from being anything other than a slightly below average or average hitter at 1B… though his defense will make him a nice little player.

I agree with this

He’ll be a nice player for a few years for a 5th rounder with that defense if he can put up those lines.

They will split time between

DH and 1B. Davis may get some time at 3B just so he stays in the lineup.
