Marlins Trade Options
The Marlins needs are 1. Bullpen 2. Starting Pitchers 3. Leadoff hitter
1. They could go for a guy such as Chad Qualls or Matt Capps. The offer Hermida for Capps would have been good but then Maybin would be in center. Even though Maybin has been hitting the ball well in Triple A I'm not sure he is ready. Plus the Marlins save money if they don't call him up until September. I'm not sure how much it would take to get either of these players. The Marlins could trade away Graham Taylor, Aaron Thompson, or Jose Ceda for one of these closers. In the end if the Marlins get one or two bullpen arms, they could very well make a run at the playoffs.
2. With Andrew Miller and Sean West in the minors their rotation is Johnson, Nolasco, Volstad, Vandenhurk, and ?. Roy Halladay may be a reach, but it could propel them into the playoffs this year and next year. They would definaltey have to give up Stanton or Morrison maybe even both. West or Miller would be included to. And I'm sure they would have to give up some other decent prospect such as Thompson or P.J. Dean. To get Halladay it would be a steep price. Another guy I think the Marlins should make a run at is Carl Pavano. The Marlins could give away one of there grade B prospects and probably land him. He has been pitching decently and would be a very good 4 or 5 starter, Another guy the Marlins could get is Jonathan Sanchez. To get him, the Marlins could give up Dan Uggla and replace him with Coghlan and then call up Maybin.
3. The Marlins could look internally for this issue but Maybin may not be ready. If not they could trade Dan Uggla away. All Uggla is good at is hitting home runs. He sucks at fielding and does not have a good contact rate. Dan Uggla could be very valuable to trade away. I think the 2nd best option is to bring up Maybin and trade Uggla for a prospect such as Desmond Jennings of the Rays and if Maybin fails, bring up Jennings. The best option is to make Coghlan the leadoff hitter and trade Uggla and Hermida for an outfielder and bullpen arm. Maybin would also have to be called up/

Dan Uggla
gotta lock him up long term, hes a franchise player.
He is a magician with the glove, did u catch last years all star game
your second point is on the ridiculous side.
There is no point to even discussing the option of adding Roy Halladay to the Marlins rotation. Right now, he makes just under three times more than any other player on the Marlins (Hanley Ramirez and Dan Uggla). Not only would the Marlins have to give up top of the line prospects (Stanton and Morrison might be two of the most “untouchable” prospects in the game), but they would also be on the hook for Halladay’s salary next year when he makes over $15 million. That means that the cost conscious Marlins, who over the past 4 years have never had a payroll over $36 million, would pay one player 1/3 of the entire team’s allotted salary. There is a small possibility that the Marlins would be interested in Cliff Lee (the Indian’s asking price is lower for Lee than the Blue Jays’ is for Halladay), who has a more friendly, $9 million contract for next year. I agree that I suspect the Marlins will be buyers but I’m not sure they have enough to hold off the rest of the pack racing for the wild card sport and make it to the playoffs.
Uggla for Jarrod Parker?
pretty good deal if you ask me, but the marlins might ruin any young arm that they have. examples: anibal sanchez, andrew miller, etc.
Theres no way...
that the Diamondbacks would even consider that. Two years of Uggla is not near enough for 6 cost controlled years of a potential ace. Also, even though the Marlins would love to trade Uggla before arbitration next year because they do not want to pay his (enormous… to the Marlins at least) salary (probably around $6-$7 million), this would be a selling low point. They might just wait until the offseason and hope that Uggla has a good second half.
potential aces are dimes a dozen
…but a 2B whose career line of .257/.340/.479 do not grow on trees.

err...
1. The Marlins do not need bullpen help. Peripherally they have one of the best bullpens in the majors. The ERA is poor because they had to see what shit stuck to the wall; Penn, Kensing, ect. are gone. Look at the stats of those who currently occupy the bullpen. The LAST thing we need is a bullpen arm.
Also, Jose Ceda has a torn Labrum. Nobody is going to want him. Graham Taylor blows balls and the only reason he will ever seen a ML roster again is because there’s nobody else to call up, same as the reason he was called up this year. Nobody is going to want him. Aaron Thompson is not exactly special. Yeah, he’s having a better year, but not by much. His K/BB has barely improved and is still only in the mid 1’s. The main difference between this year and last year is his normalized BABIP and HR/FB, so basically, he’s performing at the same level and just getting different ERA results. Right now you’re hopeful he becomes a #5 starter, but if he breaks a camp it’ll likely be as a LOOGY (Which the Marlins have already talked about moving him to dating back to last offseason).
2. As others have already noted, we are not getting Halladay because of the money he makes. When the stadium changes, things should change. But things are what they are right now so you need to be realistic. Carl Pavano would be nice but there’s no way they should give up a B prospect for him (Which, at this point, would basically be West and Dominguez). And Pavano does not fix the biggest issues which I’ll get to below
And I had already noted on Thompson but PJ Dean? The guy has gone MIA and is done with baseball, so unless something changes in his head he’s not pitching again. No team is going to trade for that.
3. You want to fix our “lead off problem” by…having our lead off hitter lead off? I’m really not understanding this. CC has basically been leading off since he’s been called up, and you want to make moves that would then have him…still leading off?
Your biggest problem is middle of the order bats. We have one, ONE, hitter with a OPS over .800. His name being Hanley Ramirez. Nothing you propose fixes our biggest issue that our offense is Hanley Ramirez and a bunch of under performers..

These suggestions are ridiculous, and are clearly the result of homerism fantasy
They would, nor could, ever acquire Halladay. It simply is counter intuitive to the Marlins’ philosophy. They also should look internally for bulpen help, rather than trade hermedia, thus forcing the arbitration clock to start ticking for Maybin. And you also seriously overvalue Uggla’s trade value. I agree that they should move Uggla, but they could never get a prospect a la jennings back. sorry buddy.
at least have a clue
if you’re going to post something about the marlins on this site, at least have a clue. i’ll refute a few of your points, but the entire post is hogwash.
the marlins will not trade for capps or qualls because 1. nunez has been good 2. they also have lindstrom. 3. jose ceda is supposed to be their closer of the future. i live 20 minutes from the marlins, i see them every day in spring training, and i read probably every single article on the internet about the marlins. not once have i ever seen anything about them being interested in either qualls or capps.
i tried to ignore the maybin comment but i just can’t. he struggled to start the season, was sent down, and now has prospered in triple-a. when they acquired him he was labeled their centerfielder-of-the-future. that hasn’t changed. he will be called up soon. everyone knows that. you say that you don’t think he is ready. have you talked to the scouts? if he’s not ready now, then when will he be ready?
The Marlins will not trade Taylor, Thompson, or Ceda simply because that is not how they operate. they bring in the young players so they can control them for a few years; they don’t trade their young players away. and no, the marlins will not be making any run at the playoffs.
roy halladay? dude, what are you smoking? there’s no way they’ll even make an attempt at him. if you read any of halladay’s comments, he has said that he wants to go to a contender. i don’t think he meant the marlins. they will NEVER give up stanton, nor will they give up morrison.
carl pavano? your post gets worse with every word. i’m gonna ignore the rest of what you said because it’s just laughable.
Marlins
The Marlins went for Manny who says they can’t get Halladay. They would need money from the Jays but it is possible they get him. YES they need bullpen help. Nunez has been ok not great and not good. Lindstrom is very shaking as he does not have good control. The rumored offer was Hermida for Capps but did not work out. The Marlins could get Qualls or Capps still. The Marlins just got a new stadium and if they feel like they could get Halladay or Lee and figure out a way to lock them up until 2012 and take a loss of money til then, they could do it.
