Whats up with David Price???
Getting bombed today in Toronto. 3 HRs and 6 ER thru 3 IP. 11 HR in 53 IP on the year.
His stuff still looks good, just need better command/control. Just bad luck perhaps?
I guess it was premature for me to think he could step into the Rays rotation and dominate right away.
Now raise your goblet of rock. It's a toast to those who rock!
Pitch selection
He just kept throwing FB after FB after FB
Nearly every hitter was starting with a FB and every time the Jays saw one they jumped on it. Plus his velocity seemed down on the FB which certainly wasn’t helping.
price
-needs to work on third pitch (change up), hard to be starter with just two pitches.
-figure out how to get righties out as they seem to see the ball really well coming out of his hand. maybe command his fastball better inside against them.

I think his change has looked better than his slider the last few times I’ve seen him (which isn’t often I admit). Today he was throwing some slow, slurvy breaking ball the announcers couldn’t seem to figure out. They called it a slurve, curve, slider, cutter and I’ve never really heard he throws anything but a FB (4 and 2 seem), CU, and slider.
Like I said above, their game plan seemed to be horrible and he was to slow to adjust. The Jays obviously came in thinking be aggressive at the plate and hit the first FB you see hard. Price just kept throwing them FBs to start off nearly every at bat and they tee’d off on him.
He does need better command (his FB placement wasn’t very good and his BB rate obviously needs work) but his pitch selection/game plan was horrible today.
fastball command
simple as that. i didn’t see today’s game but that’s been his problem earlier this year.

Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur
A: Because the Braves don't want to show their fans how bad you suck.

GCL Nationals Situation....
They have too many outfielders….Do you think Destin Hood could be called up to SS (Vermont) to alleviate this mess. I am a big Derrick Phillips fan and want to see him get as many at bats as he can this year.
In support of my argument, look at todays game...
Hood: 3/4, 2B, 3B, HR (single short of the cycle)
Phillips: 1/1, 2B
Hood is clearly better than the RC league pitchers, call him up!
I'd like to see Hood bumped up too
Getting him a month in the NYPL could be a good stepping stone towards sending him to the SAL next season.
Brandon Snyder
Continues to struggle mightily in AAA Norfolk. Has anyone soured on him a bit?
Is he expected to be the 1B of the future for the Os when Huff is gone?
Now raise your goblet of rock. It's a toast to those who rock!
I don't think the Orioles....
…expect him to be ready in 2010. Which is part of why the team seems to comfortable offering arbitration to Huff at the end of the year.
But I’m not too worried about Snyder. He’s still only 22, killed AA, and he’s having some trouble making adjustments to a new level. If I’m worried about him, then do I have to panic about Wieters?

Saw McEachern pitch today
Took a trip out of the area to fish and view the catskills. Renegades stadium isn’t far away from the catskills so i went to the game. won’t go there again due to outrageous pricing there. I got video of McEachern and he may have two maybe 3 plus pitches someday. His curveball is Tillman lite and he threw some impressive changes today. He hung one curveball which was crushed and go unlucky because his infield has no range.
Storen
His numbers are in the ridiculous range:
18 IP, 0 BB, 31 K b/t Low and High A.
HE'LL NEVER BE WORTH IT
I don’t know why the guy just doesn’t retire now.
Obviously he has awful stuff
He is just keeping the ball in the zone. Because you know, if you have great stuff you walk players, since he doesn’t walk anyone, he obviously has no future.
I just got on twitter.Follow me at http://twitter.com/JDSussman
I'll be trying to post lines and analysis as much as possible.

Pedro Alvarez
2-3 with a HR and 0 K so far in tonights game
KG mentioned him in BP’s latest minor league report as well, seems to be catching on finally both at the plate and in the field. Obviously the K rate is still a concern but we do need to remember he didn’t get any pro experience last year and is adjusting well to AA already.
Tabata as well
He’s on fire, may not hit 30 HR a season but he may become similar to a Kirby Puckett type of hitter.
Yes, I Completely Agree
Jose Tabata should definitely be compared to a Hall of Famer with over 200 career homeruns because his OPS has finally been risen above .750.

You gotta admit
that strikeout number is pretty impressive. Though obviously the Puckett comp is excessively optimistic at best

A Few Yanks Worth Mentioning
AAA:
Romulo Sanchez: 5.1IP 5H 1ER 0BB 7K - The AAA Yanks needed an extra starter and are stretching out Sanchez, who has been in the pen with the Pirates and Yankees. Might be an interesting player…
Damaso Marte: 1IP 1K —-Assuming Bruney is actually back to normal (it seems so now) and if Marte shows something, the Yanks’ pen will be a force to be reckon with.
AA:
Jesus Montero: Jesus Montero 2-4 HR(15 overall, 8 w/ Trenton) - Hitting .310. Do they promote him again?!! Probably not with Cervelli in Triple-A though….
A+:
David Adams: 2-5 - Really coming on now in Tampa after slow start. Good contact and walk numbers. No homerun power yet but 34 extra base hits.
Corban Joseph: 3-4 HR(4) - .294. Having a nice first full season.
Jairo Heredia: 4IP 5H 2R 1ER 0BB 4K – Finally back from that mystery injury; the impessive game is good to see.

Jhoulys Chacin
was electric in his 1 inning of pen work for the Rockies. Unfortunately at the dispense of my Giants, but it was impressive nonetheless. Sharp curve with good velocity, 94 MPH fastball that looked faster to me.
Adoptive parent of Kyle Nicholson
He's
just about ready. He’ll never be a huge offensive force, but he’s totally ready to tread water and bring his otherworldy defense to Milwaukee.
I wouldn’t put great odds on JJ Hardy remaining a Brewer past next week.
Brandon Erbe back in AA
6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K
Jairo Heredia in A ball
4 IP, 1 ER, 5 H, 0 BB, 4 K
14 K's?
is that a typo? that’s p insane.

Heyward
2-4, 2B, K
His AA OBP actually dropped tonight and he’s now hitting just .422/.506/.734
On the year he’s at a cool .328/.405/.573 – .979 OPS

Edinson Rincon
2 for 3, 2 walks, 1 sb
3B in the Pads org, and should really be on everyone’s radar.
18 years old, in the Northwest League, putting up 346/462/579 in 107 at bats. 21 walks/21 strikeouts.
From KG:
An 18-year-old Dominican with a quality bat, Rincon has been one of the most talked about players in the Northwest League this year. Wednesday’s game, which included his first professional grand slam, upped his season averages to .333/.432/.576 in 26 games. Athletic and strong, Rincon has an excellent approach for a teenager to go with plus power. All he needs now is to find a position, as his defense at third base is beyond rough.
From Scout.com:
An American League scout broke down the top talent currently playing for the Eugene Emeralds.
His top prospect without any debate – Edinson Rincon.
"I wouldn’t trade that guy for anything," the scout said. "He has tremendous tools at the plate and makes it look easy. He is strong, has a great approach, and will hit a ton of homers one day.
"The only thing he needs is for someone to hit him a million ground balls. I kind of think his lower body hasn’t caught up to his upper body. It looks like his legs don’t know how to move that frame. I think he will be fine defensively, especially with that bat."
Thank you for this!
I hadn’t heard of this guy at all. He seems terrific.
When they say that he has plus power, they mean present rather than future, right? I’m very impressed that he’s already showing Hr power at age 18
