Deolis Guerra's last AA start.
7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 12 K
He's been remarkably solid since being promoted to AA.
Maybe the Johan trade won't end up a complete disaster for the Twins...

pretty much
human beings, who are almost unique in their ability to learn from the experiences of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so.

Does anyone know if he's doing anything different
That’s the first start in his entire Twins career that I would qualify as great. I’d seen him pitch 7 shutout innings before, but he’d only strike a couple guys out. I’d seen him strikeout more than 1 guy an inning, but he’d also allow a ton of walks, hits and runs. This was the first time ever that he dominated.

Not completely true
Yes, this may have been his best start since coming over for the Twins but 12 K’s is beyond dominant. His last start in A ball before moving up was a similar start if I remember correctly. I don’t have the proof but I’m pretty sure I’ve seen some other impressive box scores from him. If he can keep it up he’ll definitely be moving up a lot of prospect lists back to where he was in the 07-08 off season, especially as a 20 year old in AA.
Peyton's good but have you ever heard of Jeff George?

I'm open to the possibility that I'm wrong
But I’m pretty sure this is the first start for the Twins where he both struck out more than 1 batter an inning and allowed fewer than one baserunner an inning, which is my criterion for dominance. I can’t find a pre-AA game log, so I can’t verify that, but I watch the Twins MiLB box scores pretty closely and can’t recall seeing one. Maybe I let the frequent disappointing starts blind me to the gems.

Okay, I did some digging
on the Fort Myers Miracle website, and these were Guerra’s last 5 starts (from earliest to latest):
4ip 6h 6r 3er 3bb 7k 0hr
4ip 10h 8r 8er 2bb 2k 2hr
6ip 6h 3r 2er 0bb 3k 0hr
5.2ip 9h 5r 4er 2bb 2k 0hr
7.1ip 1h 1r 0er 1bb 6k 0hr
So we were both kinda right. The last start was really good. The rest were a mixed bag.

Did he turn a corner in the FSL?
Or did the Twins just promote him thinking that parts of four years in High-A were enough and a change of scenery might do him well?
