I got a nickel on Drabek winning today

I wonder if the Phillies really want Halladay, they will give up drabek

He will be facing...

some pretty good hitters in Pedro Alvarez, Jose Tabata, and Gorkys Hernandez.

Whats w/ Gorz and Snell, both dominate AAA & yet it seems the Pirates have it out for each.

Pirates

something is going on there where the players just hate the place. I don’t know, but when you have a pitcher who would rather be in AAA than in the big leagues, there’s serious problems going on

by loop on Jul 22, 2009 7:07 PM EDT up reply actions

I just think the players who have been Pirates for a while know they don’t fit into NH’s long term plans and that he is trying to totally change the culture…which often means getting rid of everyone and everything that was a part of the old culture. After losing for 20 years straight, I don’t think there is anything wrong with NH’s approach. It’s possible he could be more delicate with his approach to some of these players but he has no ties to any of them and I think that has made it easier for him to seperate himself from the situation. It’s the fans, the players, and the reporters/analysts having problems with his approach. Personally I think he is getting decent results and slowing turning that hole of a baseball team around.

been said before

but what a loaded OF depth chart for the minors. Obviously, not all of them will pan out, but there’s talented depth. I think Che-Hsuan Lin is one of the more underrated guys out there in the minors, perhaps even amongst Red Sox fans. Post ASB, he’s sporting a .337/.397/.462 line. After April, he’s been red hot.

Kevin Goldstein tweeted about it
Rockies RHP Jhoulys Chacin pitches one inning “removed as a precaution for possible, future organizational moves.”

If Chacin is

involved in a trade for anyone besides Lee or Halladay, then shame or O’Dowd. But if it’s Lee or Halladay? Then I’m tempted to give O’Dowd some love for a very ballsy move … if it happens that is.

small Mejia update from the Binghamton newspaper

Before the game, B-Mets manager Mako Oliveras told me that injured pitching prospect Jenrry Mejia is coming along in his rehab from a strained right finger but that there’s no timetable for his return. “He’s doing good,” Oliveras said. “Yesterday, he threw a little bit and had no pain. We want to make sure he’s fine.”

hey Jibs

you going down to any Binghamton games in the next week or two. I plan on making a couple of trips down there. I’m going to catch Akron next friday or saturday and if the phillies don’t clean the farm out for ROY i’m going down there one day.

by Bravesin07 on Jul 22, 2009 9:58 PM EDT reply actions

I haven't been to any games in the past few weeks

My summer classes have made it tougher to get to games. I was hoping to catch Reading, but I’ll be out of town then. I can probably hit one of the Akron games though.

Interesting.......

that Was Probably Manship’s strongest start of the season

and it was at AAA Rochester of the International League……

That may have been his most impressive start in about a year and a half.
We all know the K’s wont be there for Manship as he levels up, but he is looking like a future big-league starter even if it comes as a back-end guy,

GREAT

Because they acquired their 1B of the future for an overrated middle reliever.

By the way, aside from the hot streak, he is actually having a solid season.

He's right

A non-contender getting 6 years of control of a solid every day player for a RP about to enter his arbitration years is a good move.

still a bit early to give up on him. Not saying you are, but with his BB rate, I think he has pretty good potential.

dangit

i’m actually hoping he’s just so-so with the bat so his potential transition to the mound fulltime isn’t quite as contentious

by LQ on Jul 23, 2009 3:28 AM EDT up reply actions

well

outside of Navarro, Boston doesn’t really have another shortstop talent, so it wouldn’t be the worst thing if Kelly stayed at this. It’s not ideal, but there is some silver lining. And who knows? Maybe Kelly is a stud at short, and if he stays there, maybe Boston’s looking at their future SS.

by toonsterwu on Jul 23, 2009 7:51 AM EDT up reply actions

yeah

I’d be fine with that scenario too. I guess I’m just hoping that his development is as straight forward as possible. Since he’s already shown elite talents on the mound i’d lean that direction at that point. If he’s solid at short it’s just going to split his focus longer.

Dexter Carter

White Sox arm, doesnt seem to get much love around here. The guy has a great K/IP stat (111k in 138ip), a very solid ERA (over 3 due to a couple of rough starts), and only 32BB in 111 innings.

Last night he went 6ip, 0er, 5h, 2bb, 9k

Any thoughts on this guy? Why aren’t the Whiesox moving him to AA?

by jepmotors on Jul 23, 2009 9:53 AM EDT reply actions

"getting love"

Can we please, please, please begin a moratorium on this phrase? I sweat to God, you can’t scroll a tenth of the way down a prospect chat or one of these updates w/o someone asking why “x” doesn’t get more love. Because there are 10,000 different prospects, and your guy is one of them. There’s your answer.

by gogotabata on Jul 23, 2009 10:18 AM EDT up reply actions

Well

I’m certainly not “getting any love” from you. Geez. It’s just a phrase. Relax
