Around SBN: Knicks Beat Lakers With Familiar Strategy

July 21 MILB

Some notables for this evenings fun.

Brian Matusz, Zach Stewart, Brett Cecil (MLB), Kyle Davies, Shaun Marcum, Rowdy Hardy, Ian Snell, Jeff Manship, Fausto Carmona, Kei Igawa (remeber him?)

I'm sure there were a ton more pitchers that went today but this is what I rounded up with a quick look. Discuss the day's ongoings and what you have all seen. Any hitters that had monster days?

Chris Davis

Chris Davis – 2/5 with his 3rd HR since being demoted. Of course he also committed 3 errors at 3B in the game. His line since being sent down:

.345 avg 3 HR 10 k’s 4 BB’s in 55 at bats. The k-rate really stands out. There must be a hole in his swing that AAA pitchers can’t figure out, but is very easy for major league pitchers to exploit.

by tt68 on Jul 21, 2009 11:05 PM EDT reply actions

55 at bats = 13 games?

I think the aaa pitchers are exploiting him as much as their talent level allows. Mayjor leaguers are better and thus, produce more strike outs.

Rob Deer, you have returned to major league baseball…

Zach Britton

7 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 7 SO, 0 BB

3rd best pitching prospect in Baltimore behind Matusz and Tillman.

Really?

What about Arrieta?

I know he isn’t tearing up in AAA but still you are going to hold 8 starts against him that much. He is a top 50 prospect in baseball and Britton is not. Although Britton will probably be a fringe top 100 at some point very soon.

Forgot about Arrieta....

So he’s 4th I guess. Still, he is up there with those guys, and that can’t be denied IMO. He’s a tall lefty with power stuff, and all he has done is produce. Only 21 years of age too.

Thanks

For starting the thread. I was going to do it earlier today but I couldn’t remember what the site was where all the probable pitching match-ups were listed.

3 for 5 with a double. Up to .305/.373/.516 with 7 homers in 128 AB’s, and he appears to have emerged from his mini-slump.

And since Igawa was mentioned, he outpitched Carmona, striking out 4 in 7 shutout innings.

Q: If on-base pct is so important then why don't they put it on the scoreboard? -Failcoeur

Randy Ruiz

In Triple-A Las Vegas,

Randy Ruiz went:

2 for 4 with 2 HR and 4 RBI

Joe Inglett

3 for 5 with 2 RBI and has now brought his average up to .383.

This guy really deserves to be called up again.

OT: Are the Mets sellers?

Fascinated by this quote from the Lennon commentary on the loose Halladay-Mets discussion:

The Mets believe they are more than one player away from jumping back into contention this season and also are reluctant to part with the best of the prospects they have in their farm system.

That would be a surprising team to be selling. I’m not sure that the Mets have a ton of assets that they would sell, but it’d be a fascinating team to be in the seller’s mix.

A's pitcher promotions

Tyson Ross to AA midland
Anthony Capra to high A stockton

Both 08 picks have been dominant lately good to see them tested.

not really a prospect at 26, but tom everidge is having a great season. Spent parts of 4 yrs each in high A/AA before finally getting a shot in AAA.

http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?pos=3B&sid=milb&t=p_pbp&pid=452784

also they signed 16th rd pick and 30th rd pick Josh Leyland and Royce Consigli. Leyland might be a nice find one of the best power hitters in CA
