Upcoming schedule....please take this as a guideline. Every time I make a firm schedule something happens to delay me, but these are the things I will be working on.

Monday: Jonathan Sanchez Prospect Retro
Tuesday: Double-A Transition Monitor: Jhouyls Chacin
Wednesday: Prospect Profile: Michael Taylor
Thursday: Prospect Smackdown: Jason Heyward vs. Mike Stanton

Other stuff I am working on this week: Trade Central Feature for Rotowire; Top 100 Prospect Update for Rotowire; ongoing research projects.

Stanton smackdown

I’m really looking forward to this.

I’d also be interested in Stanton versus Cody Johnson, who superficially shares Stanton’s power/strikeout tendencies, though he’s nowhere near as good a prospect. What separates Cody from Mike, and how likely is it that either of them wind up making a difference in the Show?

johnson

I think Johnson might get something of a bum rap . . .he’s obviously got his holes, but he’s done a very respectable job of making incremental improvements. He’s still really young (doesn’t turn 21 until mid-August!), so if he takes 3 years in AA to put everything together, so be it. If he hits .250 in the majors he’s a 30-35 HR/year guy, I’d take that.

What separates him from Stanton? Age/competition, just because Stanton is even younger and already doing some decent things against AA competition. Strikeouts . . .it’s still a huge red flag for Johnson, while Stanton has made massive improvements there (I give a lot of leeway re: AA stats, that’s a huge challenge for any 19 year old). Johnson is in his third year of pro ball, Stanton in his second, that’s another big thing to note in comparing their production and refinement.

Define making a difference.

I'll throw out my personal predictions on how this goes

Chacin? He’s very good . . .for a future probable No. 3 starter
Taylor? He’s a five tool stud, and the only thing holding him back from a true Grade A is being either a year too old or a level too low
Heyward or Stanton? Both are great prospects, but Heyward gets the edge mostly (but not entirely) on the basis of AA performance. Stanton is NOT a definite Grade A prospect at this point
