Gordon Beckham
I've just been offered Gordon Beckham in a fantasy trade and though I know he is performing well in the majors after a strong start to the season in the minors so that is good news for the keeper pool.
What I don't know is what kind of player he projects to be and what position will he employ?
I know the white sox tried him at 2B and he's now playing 3B though he is a natural SS, so where will he end up?
What current player does he best comp to? Is he a contact/doubles type or will he have pop?
In his best season what do you think his stat line will look like?
Thanks for any help, I appreciate it.

Accept the trade
I hate these fantasy questions, but Beckham is an exciting player to talk about.
He’s looked alright at third, but I think he ultimately ends up at second. That said, it might not be next year. Dayan Viciedo has been awful in AA and he’s not a 3B either. Ozzie Guillen thinks Alexei Ramirez is good at short, so I think Beckham winds up at second once the White Sox realize Chris Getz isn’t an everyday player. I just don’t know how long that will take. After all, this is the same organization who benched Nick Swisher last year so Ken Griffey Jr could play center.
He’s only 22 right now, but he’s not a huge guy. I think he’ll end up more of a doubles hitter than a home run hitter. I think a typical Beckham year will be 35-40 doubles with 15-20 homers. If he does that at second base, he’s going to be an All-Star many times over.

I agree
Beckham is something special, like you said hes only 22. I personally believe he could be every bit as good as Chase if not better, hes already made the bigs at age 22 and is holding his own, Chase didn’t make it till he was 24; both were pretty polished coming out of College but i feel Bacon has the chance o be something very very special.
Better than Chase Utley
That’d be a top 3-5 player in baseball. Chase Utley-lite is an all-star player, that’s the description I like for Gordon.
Corrected
That’d be a top 3-5 player in baseball Albert Pujols.

Remember,
Utley wasn’t given a chance to be more than a utility infielder due to the poor management of the Phillies manager at the time. He would have broken out earlier if he were given more of an opportunity.

I’d say do it. Think he’ll be about Chase Utley lite. of course, it depends who youre trading him for
well
The entire deal has be giving up Wainwright, Aardsma and Zobrist all of whom I feel like I’m selling high on and I get Beckham, T. Hanson and some picks for the future…
whoa
if you’re getting Beckham AND Tommy Hanson, along with some picks? It sounds like you’d be trading away current for future – and your future will look bright either way.
Wainwright, Aardsma and Zobrist
are all pretty young themselves…only 28 or so. I would agree that he will be getting younger, but these guys still have another 3-5 good years in head of them.

I can't believe how young Aardsma is.
He’d be a good name to mention in the “Guys you thought would be better” thread.

right now he's a lot better than Wieters
is this another Gordon vs. Longoria debate because Wieters is looking like another Alex Gordon.
you, my friend, need to learn some patience
And for the record, no one ever rated Gordon as highly as Wieters has been rated
