Jordan Walden forearm injury
"The Travs also lost starting pitcher Jordan Walden to a strained right forearm after facing two batters in the first inning."
"Walden allowed a leadoff single by Craig Gentry then threw wildly on a pickoff moving him to second base. Walden's last pitch of the night was a wild pitch fired over the head of Dustin Majewski for a walk."
The Dallas Morning News also reported that his fastball was at 88 MPH, much slower than his standard velocity.
Paging Dr. Andrews, I presume...

a muscle strain
is a long cry from anything requiring surgery… although for a guy who’s arm is responsible for winning his bread any injury is cause for at least some concern… it would be akin to dirk diggler injuring his member… “i’m a star i’m a star i’m a star. I’m a big bright shining star.”
the problem will be if any of the damage is ligamentous or at the myotendinous junction as connective tissue heals slowly and often requires surgery to repair
but like i said below
it doesn’t mean TJ is imminent… it’s certainly a cause for concern, but if handled properly surgery may be avoidable

Yeah, obviously we can't know anything for sure and everyone is unique...
but it does seem to be TJ surgery, much more often than not.
it could be
the anterior forearm musculature helps share valgus forces that could potentially damage the UCL… if the ability to bear these loads is diminished and the pitcher tries to throw through this injury then he might have some more serious problems down the road…
but shutting him down now is wise and hopefully no damage has been done to the connective tissue that requires surgery
