by the way

by the way, not many commented on my burlington/wisconsin reports. did you guys like that stuff?

by John Sickels on Jul 12, 2009 7:18 PM EDT reply actions

yeah I liked it

Hit-and-Runs are still my favorite, but those were good reports. The stuff of Lawrie was real good.

hit and runs favorite feature not trying to hijack thread but what would be interesting is to look at what team has the best future rotation given young pitchers at Ml level and the minors but then again i can just do a fan post about that

also haven’t read it. I don’t recall having seen ‘em, so I’ll have to figure out what happened and read ’em.

Loved them

Really awesome stuff, John. I especially liked how you didn’t just stick to the “name” guys and talked a bit about guys who are a bit more fringy . . .I think it gives a lot of perspective to the reader. The fringe stories are always my favorites.

anybody know much about him?

Was a toolsy OF who never hit

But could hit 100 on his outfield throws, so ARI put him in the bullpen a year or two ago.

alvarez is a hacker

i know he’s faced 2 lefties but damn

by daveh33 on Jul 12, 2009 7:19 PM EDT reply actions

well

He’s been terrible against lefties this year but pretty decent against righties (albeit with contact issues). I think the platoon and defensive issues are the biggest concerns . . .if he’s a 1B it’s hard to overlook flaws in his offensive game.

by mrkupe on Jul 12, 2009 7:24 PM EDT up reply actions

sept

Good stuff. Needs command.

Alvarez controls the zone well…but his swing just doesn’t look too quick right now.

doesn’t look too confident at the plate, maybe just me.

Wow, his arm is awfully weak

by John Sickels on Jul 12, 2009 7:45 PM EDT reply actions

but I only saw the slow-mo reply, was it weak in real time?

Adoptive parent of Kyle Nicholson

by gore51 on Jul 12, 2009 7:46 PM EDT up reply actions

how with that arm

do you only throw out 3 of 14 base stealers?

by was385 on Jul 12, 2009 7:47 PM EDT up reply actions

not always the catchers fault

by JP_Frost on Jul 12, 2009 7:48 PM EDT up reply actions

Oh I know

He caught that guy on a pretty slow delivery to home plate, even if a couple of times that happens, I’d imagine he’d have a higher percentage than that with what he just showed off

by was385 on Jul 12, 2009 7:52 PM EDT up reply actions

true, but some of those pitchers are still very raw and might not be the best at holding runners. Given his arm strength, I’d say he’ll be more than alright throwing out basestealers.

by JP_Frost on Jul 12, 2009 7:53 PM EDT up reply actions
